Shanti Dual LPS 5V/3A , 5V/1.5A

My new RPI DAC came up today..THD+N at -111 on first test. Jitter at -145. There is a rise at 10Khz but only due to N and not H distortion . I understood from Cirrus that its because of the charge pump incorporated. since its noise...not a concern for SQ

Driver is advancing rapidly. If you want to know what CS43198 sounds like ..take a look at reviews of Astell&Kern SR15 I have not done any SQ test ..but engineering team said: "it sounds good". Usually they are very sparse with SQ comments. We have still lots of work but we are advancing . Do we need a box...mmmm. Oled screen maybe ? IR..

This will become second gen Boss. Super Boss..Boss 2 , SuperMario...decisions decisions decisions

BTW.. Harmonics on Cirrus Logic look very similar to hi end AKM . H2 , H3..and nothing else.

It seems that ALLO will innovate again on RPI world.Pricing is the big issue. Everyone wants something cheap and great. They are kind of incompatible . Still thats our target. We are gunning for Khadas. Better specs , much better sound, pricing..wait and see

Will it be better than Rev on SQ ? Frankly no, I dont think so (but I have not heard it). Sample rate up to 192Khz only due to technicality of clocks. For streaming its more than enough. So DAC only we gun for Khadas to be better on every front. Throw them in the garbage. (but a lot of kudos to the designer)

Of course if you want oled , casing , IR ...it will be higher priced. How much higher..

Hello cdsgames,
Thanks for a fantastic thread!

I hope i don't ask a trivial question, but i cant seem to find some newer information, or news, about the upcoming amp - and when it will appear.
I was just looking to buy the volt+ d, when i saw your reply about a new amp will arrive in sep. is this still true ?

Ah. Finally a review. I also stepped over it earlier.

To be honest. I consider that review rather awful - and for sure not very beneficial from an Allo perspective. A pity that all the effort Allo put into the device made it just to a "good for a $300 device without power-supply" verdict. That's at least what I read out of it. "There are better devices for more money." If I recall it correctly. To be fair he also said there are more expensive devices not sounding as good. He's not saying what he's talking about. Therefore - useless info!

sync-mode and OSF bypass didn't seem to impress either. Allo what have you been doing?? I don't know a single tweaker soul (including me) over here at DIYA who wouldn't prefer the 9038 in sync mode!?!? Did I miss something? He seemed to have more fun with the Sabre filters and manipulating the harmonics. The Allo USB cable showed up for a split second - yep, it's a USB cable.

I've seriously been considering to go for the Revolution. After the review. I doubt that I gonna pull the trigger for now at least. In that sense, a thanx goes to the evangelist. One thing I didn't realize before was that the Revolution is not a dual-mono DAC!?!? That's what the review suggested. Can anybody confirm it? I am of course not giving up that quickly on the DAC. I really expected a "revolution". ;) And many of the features as package actually do promise such thing. I'll wait for more reviews popping up. Perhaps one day we'll also see a review on ASR at least confirming the Allo measurements. We've all known that Allo would have a tough ride in this overcrowded USB DAC segment. Let see how things develop.

I'm not sure we watched the same review. I recall him saying it was a "remarkable achievement" for the price, and he said there were better devices (he compares it to the Mytek Brooklym Bridge), but they cost a lot more money (the Mytex costs 10x as much). Allo Revolution DAC 384 kHz/DSD512 USB DAC - YouTube

Can you provide the time codes for where he said there was better for the money? Mostly you seem to have been pretty negative on the Revolution and how Allo has handled selling it - you seem to likely to experience buyers remorse if you buy it, maybe you need a Mytek Brooklyn Bridge?

I am not negative about the DAC. I don't own it. I never listened to it. I do have a lot of experience with DIY audio devices. And also with the 9038DAC chip. And I also have a lot of experience with Allo. I've been working with them over quite a period of time behind the curtain. Allo has chosen to use this DIY forum as marketing platform - and for a while - also for non DIY products!

Allo used to use the forum to gain knowledge. Relying on feedback. That's why I am giving feedback. Feedback doesn't have to be rosy all the time. Usually constructive and fair feedback does improve future products. That's what Allowas asking for in the past at least. And I said. I am waiting for more reviews. I havn't written off the DAC. That Beekhuizen review is useless from my perspective at least.
Enjoy.

Hans' review

The review did dwell on the setup, and functionality, but not the sound quality. Short and sweet I guess. He was very complementary, just not time wise. I had to watch it a few times to get that.I trust Allo (and cdsgames) from their long history here. I have already purchased one but it has been stuck in customs for two weeks. First world problems though.

I've seen several of Hans Beekhuyzen's videos in the past, and they are generally similar to this one: pedantic, fluffed up with all kids of general background stuff, and generally a lot that you mostly want to fast forward through. Maybe 2/3rd of 15 minute could easily have been edited away. But he does give the Allo a positive review.

I have an Allo Volt +D that performs very well and it seems that Allo generally tests very well by objective metrics, so I'm not worried that the Rev will perform badly. I'm waiting for Chicago Electronics Distributors to get their shipment before ordering, since I've had bad luck with ordering from overseas and having to deal with hardware failures.
