Good quality 4 inch driver

All markings I see is 490BA in ink on magnet and Pro Audio sticker: im.20b 4 OHM
The frame of speaker is plastic.
I already contacted Audio Pro in Sweden. They don't have any left.
I was thinking to replace it with a different brand that will fit.
No idea what brands are good

Ehm, I'd like to encourage Heinrich by trying without any modelling with Thiele & Small parameters and all that stuff.
The first vendor that comes to mind is Madisound, located in Massachuttes, USA. Just search for speakers>woofers>about 4"
And that's it! There are economic woofers with plastic basket at 23$ from SB Acoustic, a well regarded brand, even if it's a young one.
I don't know if they fit...other models in that category are 4 1/2 inches but expensive, around 50-60$. Check the exact dimensions...and the impedance!
I'd prefer metal cast basket and ceramic or aluminum for the cone, rather than plastic&paper, but you get what you pay for
😉

T/S do matter, for at least the impedance and matched levels, so it would work its current XO.

Just because a driver will have the same physical specs and fit into the hole perfectly, doesn't mean that it will work.

One might get very lucky, and get it working well enough on a first try... or it might need buying ten drivers until finding one that works!

Ehmm! Are you suggesting that he could pick a random driver about 4”, and that’s it? Could you explain your reasoning?

I would advise against that as a first approach. T/S parameters and “all that stuff” matter a great deal in replacing drivers in an existing speaker, if you care about faithful sound reproduction. I agree with tsmith1315, if the drivers could be repaired that would be the best solution. Else, try to get the T/S parameters from the manufacturer and try to buy duplicate drivers as best you could. If that fails, you are back to picowallspeaker’s suggestion, but be aware that you may not like the results. In that case, buying random drivers is a waste of good cash, and you may be better off looking a new speakers.

However, you did not indicate how knowledgeable you are in speaker building. It is possible that you could buy random drivers, and fiddle with the crossover and box characteristics to find a pleasing solution.

Good luck!

In case you would like to visit 🙂, Madisound is located in Middleton, Wisconsin, near Madison (hence the name).
