The Black Hole......

Then WHY is the AD797 still so expensive? I would like a real reason.

Because it's likely currently sold (in small quantities) mostly for professional applications, as a price-no-objection part, and both AD and the distributors are capitalistic monsters that don't care about the infinitesimal "high end audio" (whatever that is), or DIY Audio markets.

Otherwise said, "because it can".

I agree, Hans, it is a marketing decision. It is a popular part and they charge what they know that they can get for it. It is brought up repeatedly, because some here like to 'crow' about how much 'mark-up' there is in some hi end audio products (because they can get it as well) while ignoring that hi mark ups are common in other products too.

@billshurv,

Understood; I just thought, you might have spotted something I wasn't aware of, therefore my question.

@scottjoplin,

from previous discussions about the meaning of terms, I concluded that the underlying communication problems made it a waste of time and so I'd better refrain from such.

Parroting the strawman word doesn't make anywhere accurate. Have fun, though.

Despite the previous explanation in my post, it seems that you still haven't got why John Curl brought it up.
I hope reading his last post:

The Black Hole......

helps a bit in this regard.

As a "strawman" is based on intention but not on stubborn misunderstanding, I'll retract it..... :)

Please stop asking me, I'm retired and have only a few friends left at ADI. I could say I'm a free man, ironically I was called for the first time in my life as a juror and when I showed up they gave me a number, "You are number 6". Perfect.
