Hello everyone.
I'm in the construction phase of the next speakers, I have already bought some components but I have doubts about the mid driver.
The driver for hi frequency is the FaitalPro HF108 compression tweeter using the B-52 PHRN as a horn. The driver who will cover the sub bass area will be the B&C 15PS100, and my doubts lie in which driver to use between the tweeter and the low driver.
With the mid driver I would like to cover a zone between 150HZ and 1200-1500Hz and I'm wondering which driver could be better to cover that frequency range. I have thought about FaitalPro 10PR300 or 12PR300 drivers, Which of the two drivers would perform their role better?
I wish I had a great sound with great punch
Regards.

It may be the Beyma, if you doubt. I had thought about Faital drivers because they have good reviews.Does it have to be Faital? Because i would more think about a Beyma 10MI100 in that position...
I forgot to comment that the system is active through a minidsp and its use is HiFi no PA

Yes, but this driver is also fit for hifi, with a low MMS of 38g it does not need a lot of power to move air and it's similar efficient as the rest of yoru system. And it's the best 10" midrange i know. faital makes smaller (the 3F and 4F series) but lower efficient midrange drivers that are good, but not of that size as far as i know.

Do you have a target cost or fixed budget? What would you consider the minimum sensitivity you want? How much power handling? Maximum SPL's expected? Physical size (max and min); is there any concern with 4 Ohms? LOTS of good choices so we need help understanding more about what are your specific goals, needs, wants, desires, etc. Do you want very good quality high fidelity, or very high output or some happy, middle ground?
Best of luck!

Hello oldspkrguay.
My main objective is the highest quality reproduction possible, not the maximum output. My objective is to achieve a reproduction as realistic as possible, I would like not only to hear the instruments, I would like to feel them.
The midrange speaker will be amplified by an Onkyo M-5000R power amplifier, it has enough power for home HiFi, so the sensitivity of the driver is not critical I think.
My idea is to use a mid driver of 12" or at least a 10", now I use an 8" driver (Seas Excel) and it doesn't have the punch that I would like to achieve.
Until now I have always built speakers with typical home HiFi drivers (6", 8"), now I want to build speakers with larger drivers and the simplest way seems to be using PA drivers.
The cost of the driver would be similar to the FaitalPro drivers mentioned, I don't want to spend more than that. I know there are many options and brands, that's why I make this consultation and take advantage of your experience.
Regards.

OK, in that case; take a look at the entire Eminence musical instrument line of drivers. They have hundreds of different models. Decades ago; I attended a professional loudspeaker design seminar and workshop (their main people were there, down to Earth and easy to talk to). They will even answer the phone and you can talk to a REAL engineer; NOT just some flunky sales guy! Tell them what you think you want; they can help fine tune your choices. NOT the only vendor out there obviously but some of their drivers are used in the best designs for PA, Bass, Guitar, etc.
If it were ME; I would probably stick with the home audio HiFi choices. I have used a Faital Pro 5 inch before and it was very well built and sounded fantastic for the money; I have no clue about their larger drivers but they are probably equally as well made and have great sound quality in that price range.
Another option is to buy from a distributor that has a 30 day buy back or send back deal. As long as the drivers are not damaged in any way; and you only use clip leads or push on terminals for testing (NO SOLDERING OBVIOUSLY); they will accept returns at full value so you can do a trade in and try something else. ASK FIRST though before you commit to your order!!!

BETA-10CX - Loudspeakers | Eminence Speaker
One of many examples
KAPPA PRO-10A - Loudspeakers | Eminence Speaker
KL3010CX-8 - Loudspeakers | Eminence Speaker
tons more choices; just quick examples from different series
Thanks for the examples oldspkrguy.
For the options that you propose, I must assume that you prefer a 10 "driver over a 12" driver...

Yes, all else being equal; the 10 inch choices usually can reach higher (in frequency) than the 12 inch (not always obviously) AND; with a smaller, lighter cone; the transient response should also be quicker than with a 12 inch. (again, all else being equal).
There are a few "HiFi" speaker systems that use bass, guitar, or PA 10 inch and 12 inch drivers. I can't think of the brand names right off but if you search online, you are sure to find a few. One brand for sure uses an Eminence 10 inch bass "guitar" driver. (maybe I can try to look these up later?)...
A 10" midbass should integrate well with the upper bass extension of your 15" woofer, and also match the directivity of the B-52 PHRN horn around 1,300-1,400Hz. Faital's 10PR320 has Mms = 35g and moderate Qts = 0.29 for a good sealed alignment ... build a large open volume just behind the midwoofer for explosive air pressures, plus a tapered rear volume filled with absorption material to remove resonances. A 0.5cuft sealed volume has Qtc= 0.62 and -F3 = 120Hz. The 10PR320 has a triple roll surround which aids small cone movements.
The Faital 10PR410 is another good match...it weighs 17.9 lbs vs. 6.8 lbs for the 10PR320

LineSource has it nailed. The mid driver chosen has to operate to at least (and preferably one octave higher) than the crossover point to the tweeter. The crossover point is dictated by where the directivity of the mid and tweeter match. In the case of the horn chosen by the OP and a 10 inch driver that's about 1.4kHz. So any 10" driver that operates well out to 2kHz or so should be fine.
I would look at the JBL 2123. It's a super mid! MMS is even lower than the 10PR320 at 25g. Plus a big magnet! Only available now on the used market, however. But usually quite inexpensive. Another good choice would be the B&C 10CL51. It's really not a dedicated mid, but it performs way better than it should for the price.
Please do let us know how this works out and do post measurements of your horn/CD to add to our collective knowledge base.
