DATS V3 - Windows 10 issues

Today my long awaited DATS v3 was delivered.
Nice small footprint case with a supernova blue LED to ensure your neighborhood knows you are testing speakers 😉

Downloaded the most recent software from their homepage but ran into the same issues as last mentioned in 2018 with the DATS v2.
The speaker and mic setting are correctly configured, privacy settings - all programs are allowed to use the mic.

Wanted to start the lead calibration but got the warning message "no sweep detected"!
Tomorrows job is to check my basement for wifey's old Dell with hopefully a running Win7 OS.
Are there any other users with the same issues?
At the moment I'm a bit lost.

Thanks in advance for any tips...

Today I was so frustrated about the situation that I bought a Win7 license and reactivated my super old Lenovo R61 Dual core.
Thanks to the support stop the Win7Pro cost only up to 5€...
What should I say...it did the trick. I cannot make the DATS run under Win10 but I could reuse my old Laptop as a testrig for speaker measurements.
I would say this is some kind of win-win for me.

Hopefully there will be an update or something in the near future.
The support from Dayton was kind in words but not helpful in my case - only 4/5 stars 😉
Maybe someone runs into the same issues and probably find my small words useful.
I'm happy to have a working solution but totally annoyed about the way I need to handle it.
After this small odyssey it's time to crack a cold one and listen to some nice sine sweeps 😀

Enjoy your weekend!

Hello Duncan.
Yes, I tried everything according to the Quickstart-Guide, double-checked the registry if the microfon setting allows third party programs to take control.
Even shut down the antivirus, installed as administrator, opened the program as admin, all the small tricks you are used as a Windows user.
Switched to Windows 7 and it works out of the box.
In the meantime I also tried it on the exactly same laptop but on Win7 and it works.
So I can assume it's not the hardware...

Maac0 I gonna give it a try but at the moment I'm not at home.

Next step then is the Windows 10 statement --"you can only install apps on Win 10 from the MS app store ".

Not true as you can change the settings as per-

You Can Only Install Apps From The Windows Store In Windows 10

You can see why I have been using Linux for many years I am the type of person who acts on the principle---"payed for my PC ?" --then its mine not Redmond's .

If this doesn't work get back S4m.

By the way I watch German TV on satellite --Astra 19 E much better than Freeview UK who show very old US films and other rubbish , I do realise the German government subsidises it so all Germans can view good programmes ,many good engineering programmes .

Thank you for the advice bit the Windows 10 behaviour on insisting on it's own app-store is already long forgotten 😉
Usually I would also prefer a nice Linux system that gets s#!t done but I must be honest, even on the penguin side there are alot of problems if you don't have the correct hardware.
But I like to work with a simple OpenSuSe, Linux mint or other derivatives.

In this case the DATS uses a basic Microsoft USB device driver and Linux is not working (beside emulating a Windows)
On the weekend I gonna spend some time again on this topic to check if I may get it run with a small workaround.

In Germany more and more younger people are watching movies or other stuff in English.
I'm on the Netflix side of life and don't know the normal TV program anymore but my wife and I enjoy a good quality original English before a bad subbed German.
Subtitles are necessary thanks to all the mumbling actors or if they start speaking speedy but we got used to it.
The quality of the program in general seems to be okayish, most channels have typical advertising filled programs , but the governmental channels are well done.
Sometimes very good concerts live, some MINT related topics that are really well made.
Beside prime time the program can be fine.
Glad you enjoy the stuff we are broadcasting 😀

The windows Sound sub-system has changed since Win7.
Try software that needs the old MIDI mapper for example.
My windows 10 Pro and Home lets me install non store apps.

I did not know the software only functions using a Windows driver.

On looking on Pacman (Manjaro + Arch ) there is a list of apps with approx. the same tools.

1-bitscope
2-DS view--various instruments from DreamSourceLab-
logic analyzer-scope-etc-etc.
3-Picotech-series 2000 to series 6000
4-Hantek
5-PulseView
plus a basic iio-oscilloscope -GTK+ based app for interfacing with various IIO devices.

Drivers are the bridge between the OS and the hardware. That's why they a are needed. When You issue a "play" command to an external player, the OS driver translates "Play" to some binary instruction which is sent to the player's microprocessor and it also translates the status messages sent by the same microprocessor to the OS.
Of course, sometimes You don't have to install a driver, because the "player" understands generic commands which are shipped with the OS drivers like a mouse or a keyboard, but every chip on a motherboard needs its own driver. Take a look at the device manager.
One good example is the "generic display adapter", You will have display, but it will be slow on screen refresh and You can't change resolutions until You install the manufacturer's driver. The same applies to sound drivers, for example Lines or optical outs / ins will not work, just the basic.

I know what drivers are Maaco I was commenting in relation to Manjaro Linux which uses its own open source drivers not Windows whose drivers are closed source like NVIDIA graphic drivers .

Although I have a NVIDIA card I use open source drivers , while these are more limited in software ability they don't "phone home " or otherwise control the card .

Most people like yourself use Windows I don't as I don't want Redmond in charge of my own bought and paid for PC .

Have you any idea of the amount of personal data relayed back to Redmond ?

I could take up a whole webpage posting it.

Add to that the latest updates to Win 10 were more than 110 corrections to help protect the safety due to Windows policy of "back-doors " allowing hackers to attack windows software .

I help others on another website with malware problems relating to computers so you are not telling me anything I don't already know.

Hi,

Today I had the chance to give Win10 a new try.

The mentioned settings, especially about the running on battery is active by default and didn't do the trick.
Thank you for your advice but I give up at this point.
With Win7 I have a working Measurement Rig for my speaker stuff and I don't rely on Win10.
If I find the time I give it a try with a Linux system just beacause I'm curious 😀

I'm not blaming anyone because Win10 is a bad OS if you need to work with the system. If it's only for typical office stuff it's fine. It's sad that the implementation isn't done by a installation routine as you are used to it nowadays.
Obviously my hardware software combination somehow blocks the access to the DATS "microfon" on Win 10 and I just don't have the time to check the OS in it's depth to make stuf running that should work by default.
Probably in the future I try it again but for now...As I were a student I had more time for "hacking" the system, checking for problems and so on but today I just want to have the usability.

Have a nice weekend!

S4m, try to make a recording with Audacity (freeware sound recording app) first and that will tell you if it is a problem with DATS not working as a sound device correctly or if it is the DATS software issue.

This is an example where I generated 440Hz / 30sec wav and then recorded it while DATS test leads were connected to small speaker.... while it records you should also hear the sound from the speaker. The two channels in recording being different level is expected as it is from two sides of an internal resistor - thats how it'll know the impedance in the end.

I've just received my DATS V3 and running on W10 I have the same problem, no sweep detected.

However, I have managed to get it working with room EQ wizard on the same W10 computer so it doesn't seem like it's the computer settings or the W10 setup.

Feels like it must be something with the settings on DATS software but there's aren't any beyond choosing the input and output devices which are selected correctly. I have managed to get an output using the generator on DATS but can't pickup an input on the scope in DATS. Any suggestions to what I'm doing wrong?

The DATS input will be handled und WIN 10 as a Microfon.
Has your WIN 10 maybe blocked the MIC access for the DATS SW Application ?
Maybe you have blocked the MIC access with a tool like "O&O ShutUp10" ?

If you have any luck with Linux, please let me know how you did it. This was an issue with DATS five years ago; that I guess they still did not resolve. I too do all my audio in Linux.
