Hi.
I have some early iterations of these drivers which were modified by Stuart Tyler for these rare Celefs that they live in, so I’d ideally not like to replace them and rather have the surrounds replaced. Does anyone know a good source to contact for surrounds?
Thanks in advance,
Dave

On the versions that I have seen, the synthetic rubber surround on these Audax models was fused to the isotropic Bextrene cone. The surround has to be cut away to remove it and this process can damage the cone.
Would you give your location, Dave? It helps in suggesting a supplier.
Early iterations? Like those shown in the attachment or earlier?
Hi. Sorry, I’m in Edinburgh. Uncannily, I see you’re also a Scot, or at least living here. Where are you?
The ones I have I believe are earlier than those fine examples. Look at them with they’re still concave surrounds. Mine have gum coloured surrounds, a different pvc which the earlier ones were made of and was soon discovered to shrink in sunlight, or so I’m told. Some Drivers that used this material were bbc monitors, so they quickly identified when the sound started to change as a result. so the surround material was changed to this later and more commonly seen black stuff.
This isn’t good news. This is not only problematic since, as I said earlier, these drivers were modified and so bespoke to these speakers, to what extent though, I don’t know. There is certainly some cork attached to the basket to curtail its ringing, but I don’t know if that was the extent of the modification or if he altered the voice coils or magnet. Obviously enough to warrant them putting a big Celef logo on the back. But also, apart from the fact that they very rarely come up for sale in decent condition, I can’t tell as to what of the four versions I have.
