Cheapest PCM1704U-K DAC alternatives?

I buy TDA1387 from Taobao, they sell chips they've recovered from old Soundblaster cards at ridiculously cheap prices (about $0.08 each). But new (perhaps old stock) TDA1545As can be had for about $0.30. I've never heard of fake TDA1387s - I can't think of any chip which could replicate its functionality to any degree.

To find adapters just search for DIP8 to SOIC8 adaptor, plenty I saw on ebay just now. I have wired up a couple with just using thin tinned copper wire to do the adapting, it depends how confident you are with soldering.

Hi Lithium 675. Can't remember how much the Lite Dac 83 cost me, but it wasn't expensive, nor cheap. After listening to it for almost 2 years now, I feel it gives me what I want. That MA9 looks pretty interesting for a portable.
I'm not sure how a good TDA1545 sounds like to compare, but taobao is really the place to buy things these days huh?

I asked this before, who here has had functioning working PCM1704 fake?

If the "fake" works, it couldn't be a fake. As the pinout is not duplicated by anything else to make a fake with, except maybe a PCM1702.

And if they don't work and are fake, then purchasers can be refunded with eBays policies.

Cheers George

I don't know and I got eight 8 items in 2007 PCM1704U-K the label does not indicate U-K
from China but they work perfectly..but I'm not sure if it's authentic,my Dealer has told me that is it PCM1704U/2k

I have 2 off, PCM1704 K grade, brand new sitting in my parts store.

Every now and then I am tempted to use them for a project but as DS DACs
improve the urge is waning.
