This is the KORG NUTUBE B1 to start your adventure click HERE
Looks very interesting! Lots of good reviews on it. Thanks for sharing. Are you going to try building this?
I have built the B1, BA-3FE, and Korg B1 preamps so far. They are all great designs and very useful in different applications/combinations. As stated earlier...it’s a mood thing.
@Bfpca
That’s great information! Thanks! I’m trying to decide the scale of my next project ...I’m leaning towards full blown monoblocks.

I does have an advantage...it can be ordered as a full kit which gives individuals with less experience a better chance of completing it.
Another option, rather than building bigger and bigger classA amps, is to split the signal actively and bi-amp the speakers. Place big watts classAB on woofers and classA on rest.
To be honest, i will eventually build Alpha Nirvana, i got all the parts. Just need to finish bunch of projects first. It will be forced air cooled.

Adason,
I agree that good Class AB or even Class D is good for subwoofer and woofers. Mid bass, mid, tweeter benefit from Class A. I have done an active setup with Class AB on woofer and Class A on tweeter and that sounded very good.
I didn’t know you got the Alpha Nirvana parts already. Vunce just finished up his and it looks great in a 5Ux400mm case. Runs at 47C so still plenty of room to go thermally.

I came here to say exactly that!Another option, rather than building bigger and bigger classA amps, is to split the signal actively and bi-amp the speakers. Place big watts classAB on woofers and classA on rest.
And look, Papa already has everything waiting for you:

I would have to modify my conventional speakers to make that work. So the question becomes...do I dare to modify my commercial speakers? Probably, but what would that do to their resale value? I know some would have me getting into the DIY speaker building side of things, but I barely keep up with my electronics projects.
The lowest hanging fruit is to go active xo on only the bass, while leaving the top end passive xo.

That sounds like a cool idea...now it's finding a place to start. I'll do some research. There has to be someone who has done this with a commercial/conventional speaker. Any ideas where to start looking? I just wish I had speaker more "moderately priced" to start tearing apart.

For sure...I’d like to get my hands on that and give it a try! Maybe my buddy who owns a stereo shop will get one in some day. That’s where I got the Model 4 on loan from (Wayback Audio).
Hi KevinHeem,
If your into another diya project, I have a pair of fully operational Model 6 amplifier boards removed from their heatsinks. I believe the only difference between the model 4/6 is the transformer voltage and bias current.
Model 4 used lower voltage but higher bias for Class A. You could make your own customized Model 4.5 😀 (Model 6 is 200wpc 😱)
Cheers,
Vunce

I need to put my M2X back together first. It's getting a new SLB power supply😉 thanks for the offer.
If I hadn't borrowed this Model 4 from my friend I would have no music in the house...that would be baaaaaad!

No music... that would be baaaad!! You need multiple amps 😀
Hopefully you can get your SLB/M2X back online quickly.
You just answered your own question! Find your stock XO!Any ideas where to start looking? I just wish I had speaker more "moderately priced" to start tearing apart.
