'Philosophy' is a a broad field of study which is concerned with questions on non-physical matters such as reality and existence. So philosophy plays a key role in those decisions.
I'm much more comfortable with 'Natural Philosophy' which is concerned with questions on physical science and the physical universe.

Thanks, Tim!Wow, my perspective has been altered. Thanks, Galu!
However, I can't take all the credit for altering your perpective. It was Steve who brought the comparison to my attention. I merely located and attached the composite image.
I wasn't correcting anything you said Pete, merely stating my preference for Natural Philosophy. 😎I stand corrected![]()
I feel like an ignoramus here but from;
"Consciousness involves different aspects of perception like the perception of vision, sound, warmth, cold, pain, fear, happiness, anger, etc. This is why it is difficult to logically attribute consciousness with the processing of data."
The fear, happiness and anger are a result of complexed processing of pure I/P information, and those processes are a result of programs.
The former, vision sound, cold and warmth are more directly a result of the I/P information, and as we know hearing is very much a learnt process, dependant on experiential learning.

That's true, Steve's post immediately made me think. He deserves credit as usual. But my dusty old brain only produced pictures of what I see in the sky, extruded a bit...
I'm an ignoramus when it comes to Philosophy. Not something I could comment upon at all!I feel like an ignoramus here...

I do think the digression into the Human Brain might be unproductive in a thread about Cosmology.
I'm currently back in College with Sean Carroll's podcasts:

My intuition says we ought to understand the mysteries of Quantum Mechanics to make more progress.
I'm not sure where I am going on this, but after years of thinking Quantum Mechanics is about uncertainty in the outcome, the real problem is we can only know half of the initial state about even a simple little thing like spin with an electron.
The electron knows exactly what it is doing. Just we don't know everything about it, because the two perpendicular (z and x when going direction y in the Stern-Gerlach experiment) spin measurements anti-commute. Which makes Quantum Mechanics entirely deterministic. Not uncertain at all. Listening to David Albert.

"In our search for understanding and explaining how the Universe and the human brain/mind came to be as we see them today, our inability to relate to what natural processes can accomplish with unfathomable amounts of time leads down the path of invoking the magic and mystical. "
Thankfully I am an atheist. We are here through happy coincidence and nothing else. A roll of the cosmic dice if you will.

To expand (conflict?):Which makes Quantum Mechanics entirely deterministic. Not uncertain at all.
Classical physics is regarded as deterministic. If we know the position and velocity of an object we can predict exactly where it's going to end up i.e. we can predict an outcome.
Quantum physics challenges determinism in that the outcome with regards to a quantum object can not be predicted, and can not be established until an observer actually makes an end measurement of it.
When, how and under what circumstances an indeterminate quantity takes a definite value is a matter of debate in quantum physics.
I know, I meant I concur.I wasn't correcting anything you said Pete, merely stating my preference for Natural Philosophy. 😎
Quantum entanglement has been mentioned here. There was a program on Spectrum Channel on Quantum Biology. They explained how quantum phenomena are part of everyday life. For example at photosynthesis, whenever a photon hits the surface of a green leaf, its energy is immediately occuring inside the nucleus. No transport is involved.
I think it was presented by Jim Al Khalili and can also be found on a TED recording.

The deterministic philosophy of Classical Physics said that from the initial conditions, you can calculate the exact outcome. To expand (conflict?):

This was before Quantum Mechanics, which is proveably right, IMO. The Universe we live in.
Way am going right now, is it's not the outcome that is uncertain. It's the initial conditions that are unknowable.
We mustn't go into Religion or Atheism. Especially under Forum Rules. 😀
But since I was thrown into this Universe, slightly unwillingly, I am enjoying my time.

Yes, I am a moron with the mental age of 6 and you are a genius. 😀
Will you please, myself included, stop being ridiculous?
You mean you tested it with your toe first?🙂The deterministic philosophy of Classical Physics said that from the initial conditions, you can calculate the exact outcome.

No, you naughty boy, you are not telling the truth. Off to the corner, and don't look back.Discopete said:Okay I promise!

Quite right. I actually had no say in the matter of arrival on Planet Earth whatsoever! I blame my Parents. 😀
What I sometimes wonder about, is if we solved the "Theory of Everything" sometime soon: Where would we go after that?
Life without meaning. For Eternity. 😕
Most people know that 9+16=25.
Less people know that 27+64+125=216. Which is very Taxicab number and Ramanujan 1729.
After that it gets a bit vague. Which is good. The Universe isn't fixed. It's Breaking News.
My daughter tested it with her bum😀
"If" is the operative...never gonna happen. We don't yet know if we know what we know.
