The setup is not about speakers and amp only, but source too, cables and all else (room included).
These ADS are interesting towers, but i didn't listen these never.

I've never listen Naka 302, the D200II yes.
You should listen both in your ambient of course.
Someone told me 302 does a transparent and precisious sound, brillant, maybe very different to the D200II, because this amp sounds coloured, warm, very musical.
Finally it depend from your musical tastes also.

Those old Nakamichi amps where quite good back in the day. So was Soundstream until they sold out. Then they went to crap. Don't know much about those particular models though.

Why car amps? What are you going to use to power them? Just bench testing car amps of any significant wattage requires serious amperage. That equates to battery banks and possible super caps as well as a means of keeping it all charged. Quite a hassle if you ask me.

If you go to shopgoodwill.com you can get a used amp or receiver for next to nothing. Sometimes you can find new stuff there. Don't know if they ship international though so if you aren't in the states disregard.

Nominal impedance of these ADS is 4 ohm, if i read correctly.
I think car amp in home not a bad idea, i use these from more thirty years in my domestic setup.
Old school only.

I connect those with a power supply 30A or another 20A, but for a 200 watts amp in home it's enough a 10-15A power supply.
It's difficult to reach an high pressure level, neighbors calls cops.

Thank you for all comments.

I had tried to connect my speakers to these amps. The result was I prefer Nakamichi, Soundstream wasn’t bad anymore though. I used it to drive Boston Acoustics in my car. Back to home audio, I’ve heard that ADS speakers should be used with their same company amp, for the best result. Coincidentally, my local audio shop is selling ADS PQ10 amps. The PQ10 is bridgeable. I thought to buy a pair of PQ10, bridge them and use as mono-blocks to drive each speaker instead of single Nakamichi. What is your opinion? Please compare ADS and Nakamichi amps. Thanks in advance

I didn't listen PQ10, about a/d/s i've listened 250MX and 460MX, very good amps, but all a/d/s old school probably.
I think a four channel a/d/s is good for four channel.
You can try to bridged them but with two speakers i prefer a two channel amp.

Bridge is more power but less control and definition.
If possible, a four channel with bi-wiring speakers.
I don't know if a/d/s must to run with a/d/s, i suggest you don't sell PA302 before to compare it with an other.

Gioba- I hope you are doing well, my friend.

Agreed, there is no need to use A/D/S amps with their speakers, that's an old wives tale. There is no secret sauce or magic going on there. I think it was an easier thing for salesmen to communicate to a customer who either couldn't make up their mind or didn't understand tech talk. It simply took less time on the sales floor to say you should use Brand X amps with Brand X speakers.

The PQ8/10/20 were very nice amplifiers, that entire PS/PQ/PH line bolstered their reputation, which was already stellar. Plenty of people used them in SQ competition back then. The PQ10 was our best seller from that line. My favorites were the little 6-channel PH15 and the big PQ20.

I think the PQ10 and D200 were both very good quality amplifiers, and neither performed well above the other in any particular way.

Having said all that- I had a D200 for a little while in those days and would not have traded it for a PQ10. I did trade it for a Linear Power 2002, and wish I still had that amp.

If you have any two solid state amplifiers in perfect working order, if all crossovers are set to full range and all gains matched, they will sound precisely the same until the first amp clips.

Modern amplifiers use global feedback which significantly reduces both cost and distortion. The distortion levels are well below audible. This applies to cheap as well as expensive amplifiers.

As far as control and other such factors for a bridged amp, they don't apply. The feedback compensates. The speaker wire that you have in-between the speaker and the amp makes far more of a difference and even that is negligible if the wire is properly sized.

The biggest difference in two amps is the headroom that they have. People drive amps into clipping and virtually no one never does this. It's virtually impossible to hear the onset of clipping with complex music, easy with a single note. If you want the amp that will generally sound the best in the real world, use the one that can drive the most power to the speakers before clipping.

Remember, this is the amplifier section. If you start to introduce variables like crossovers and equalization, that's a different subject, entirely.

How are you guys doing over there in Italy?

ADS had some great amps and speakers. I still have a pair of ADS tweeters kicking around from the mid 80's. Still work like new. Although at that time I believe Peerless or Vifa manufactured their drivers for them.

I still don't understand why you want to use car amps in a home setup but If you are set on doing it I would suggest the Nakamichi for your mids and highs. Maybe bi-amp your speakers with a mini dsp.

Is the Nakamichi that you have a true class A or is it class A/B? If I remember correctly they had some class A amps.

Hi, here is all stuck, bar and restaurants closeds, not sport and walking, we must to stay at home.
I never don't listened so many music like this period.

I don't follow many notices on tv, the medias and alternative varieties talks about covid 24 hours continuously, it's too much for me.
We must to have a minimun beware, a little mask and going out for necessary things only, but this is good sense.

The situation is dangerous for olds people and debilitated persons mostly, much depends on the hospitals efficiency.
Maybe we'll have an improvement with warm season.
I hope in a better situation to the US. :)

As an owner of both, installed in the same vehicle at the same time, I can say that I would prefer the Nakamichi if given a choice.

Still am running the Nak PA-300 in a different vehicle with increased bias, and some other power supply changes.

I still like the D200II, and have a pair of them, same series here on the shelf.

As for the virus, is key to have people who are already at risk to not hesitate to get help when they are sick.

Here in the US you have a lot of people that watch way to much television and they are very susceptible to the propaganda that they see. So as long as they keep pedaling fear in the media they will continue to cower in place. Then there are people like my self that don't even own a TV and aren't so easy to manipulate. I have a suspicious mind and I can't help but feel there is something janky going on here. But I digress....Have you decided what you are going to do yet?

There have been multiple studies in France, Australia and (don't remember the 3rd):
100% of patients that received a combination of HCQ and Azithromycin tested negative and were virologically cured within 6 days of treatment.

I won't post anything else since it's off-topic but this panic is likely over.

I read something about that yesterday. Those meds are both past their patent protection so they are both readily available and in generic form so they can both be put in to practice without any major delays and won't cost a bunch. They just need approval.

Following some tests with a 10A power supply i would say that with normal listening it heats up too much, i think it is better to run at least with 15A.
Or not over 160 watt amount circa.
Can add a fan near heatsink also.

I plan to use car amp with home speakers. Have Nakamichi PA-302 and Soundstream D200 II. The speakers to be driven are ADS L1590s. I’d like to ask for your opinion. Which one do you choose for the setup? Thank you

I have experience with all 3 of those -

The Naks never had a good rep for bass tasks and would often shutdown when driving subs. The L1590 essentially has 4x 10" subs in it; the same woofer in 4-ohm sold by ADS as the S10 subwoofer in the 80s & early 90s. The D200 II is a better choice to do this, it will make rated power, You will however need DC supply with at least 30A capability. Something like a Cascade APS30 or better, the APS45. But I have to ask why do this at all?
