Repairing Lowther pm6c

So a pair of these have come into my possession this evening by way of a house clearance.

They are Pm6c Lowther drivers in home made horn enclosures.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

The foam surrounds are shot as you can see but I am thinking of getting them repaired. Are they repairable or not? If so how and where would you guys recommend?

I’m in the uk.

The entire foam surround on both drivers is gone, it’s highly likely that the spider has suffered as a result of the cones just hanging off of it.

Had a look on the Lowther web site and they charge £220 to re-cone/re-condition them.

Although I would love to see these come back to life I’m not sure I want to invest that much into them, especially if I don’t like their sound signature when done! I have read on here that they tend to have a shouty sound to them, if they tend to be peaky in the 5-8k region I will not be able to live with them for very long.

Would people be interested in these as they are??

There's a contact form on my website - I can do them for a lot less than £220.

Lowthers do have a very particular sound signature, and they're certainly an acquired taste.
That said, I tried a set recently which I put some DSP behind, and found they could actually sound very good once the peaks were taken care of.

Having watched the prices of various drivers on the usual auction site, I find that the fully-functioning ones go for considerably more than those that have deteriorated foam. Even the £220 to send them to Lowther would probably be a decent investment.
