Sean, as I don’t have the expressive skills to do any better, I’ll paraphrase the celebrity astrophysicist that everyone loves (to hate?), Neil deGrasse Tyson, who no doubt has an opinion on the question he poses:
“We’re in the middle of a massive experiment, worldwide; people listen to scientists?”

I think it actually applies to much more than the current pandemic.

I started this thread with the expectation and understanding that some people, many people really, are going to have strongly contrasting opinions on the topic of biology and especially vaccinations. I also said that I draw the line at science denial; but so far, even those with obviously denial-leaning opinions, have been respectful and careful with their wording. I greatly appreciate that and welcome their input as direct antagonism solves absolutely nothing. I would much rather hear the argument, respond with my counter, and hopefully even answer direct questions on the topic from those interested enough to ask.

So far, the main anti-argument has not been that vaccines are ineffective or "bad", but rather that the use of them is exaggerated and/or poorly managed. I vehemently disagree, but as these are qualitative statements, they are opinions and not statements of fact. I will not stand for science denial or "alternative facts", but I welcome differing opinions and implore those who agree and disagree to listen and contribute. Be ready to back up what you say though!

Appreciate your perspective and persistence 🙂.

I think vaccines in general are great, and in this country you can just book an appointment to get whatever shots you want. Free for kids, costs a little bit of money for adults, not expensive.
I had a round of "filling up" my vaccine program a couple years ago, much better and cheaper than getting sick while you're abroad. If there was a vaccine against COVID-19 I'd take it.

People have trust issues.

Indeed; recommend away. I plan to get the shingles vaccine as a result of this thread, feel free to add to my shopping list.

I do understand why some don't get it: when I was younger, I was single, lived alone, drove to work, worked in a lone cubicle. If I was working out regularly, I would go years without getting so much as a sniffle. Now 20 years later with 2 kids, that seems like a dream.

Does the immune activation that result from activation by vacins can kill very old people cause collateral disease/illness/weakness of them ?

Is there a protocol for say people over 75/80 years old for vacins ? quantity injected, type of vacins ? Profils whom should avoid it if living still at home ?

Sorry to re ask or if too much a basic question, but it seems legitimate as old people/bad immunity people are the most in danger when a virus is involved by social transmission.
Problem seem also some countries don't everytime test people for sorting them out : Flu or Covid. Ideally everyone should have with such event a flu vaccination but summer time ?

Do the biologists aware of the cv-19 time life on an inert area.. we see some State cleaning bus, room, with big vapos ?

"Fear, statistics and its logic will tell you that every single car driver on the road should wear a helmet and protective gear"

I like a car with bench seats, so I can pull my gal over next to me. They dont make such cars anymore; seating is more like a jet fighter cockpit. I assume there's a safety reason for that -

Schools in my county are just starting to catch up to the inevitable - ceasing all extracurricular activities and closure. I quit the idea of doing volunteer work and we quit the idea of attending a "career symposium" long before they cancelled it. School authorities only doing so on direction from someone else of higher authority. Wondering why they had to wait so long - until its upon us - do they not have a brain of their own?

It must be difficult having to contend with a 180 deg range of opinion, from fully expecting life to go on as usual - to get it and in 3 weeks you're dead.

One thing I'm pretty sure of regarding limited beds and equipment; no one's going to be picking my 63 year old case favorably, unless I get in early. Seeing as the idea is to avoid (as best we can) getting it at all, perhaps the delay effected by taking any and all precautions (on a personal level) makes the situation ultimately worse for me, personally. Not that I'd change that strategy by any means, but at least something to ponder.

My 19 year old son wrecked the truck I gave him yesterday, after it was struck by another vehicle and flipped it upside down. He's OK, but the truck is probably totaled. Cant decide if this is the worst thing that could happen at this time, or if its OK; maybe puts him in the public domain if he wants to go anywhere now, maybe going anywhere now is not something anyone should pursue - by any means.

Diyiggy, I've been power of atty for several 80+ folks in nursing homes.
There is no age limit for vaccine use. I always allowed the resident to decide on use and followed their wishes.
A release/refusal form for nursing home always preceded the vaccination irrespective if refused or accepted.
It was never refused. They had no knowledge of my view on it.

Some first hand experience here; saw my 14 month old daughter get her vaccines, several per leg, caused them to plump up like sausages just from the sheer volume. I had the urge beforehand to run out of there with her, as the injections were laid out in preparation, but I stayed.
She had begun to speak a bit by that age, but fell basically silent after that.

Was diagnosed with severe autism around a year later. I’m not convinced that there’s a smoking gun there with what I observed, knowing my own tendencies and personality, (or lack of) however...

Indeed; recommend away.

I just asked what they recommend, some of the things I got as a kid needed to be repeated. Had to go two times with some time in between, because they said it would give better results.

Here's my refill + various, only the most recent dates, nothing exciting. + Had flu shots a couple times, nothing excessive. In Norwegian if that's okay.

Difteri 2009, Hepatitt A 2014, Hepatitt B 2014, Kikhoste 2009, Kusma 1994, Meslinger 1994, Poliomyelitt 2009, Røde hunder 1994, Stivkrampe 2009, Tuberkulose 1995, Tyfoidfeber 2014.

Edit:
That's a sad story Phase. I do think that excessive treatment in one go can have negative side effects.

I beleive authorities manage grups not individual cases. They have also to adapt decisions everyday when there is such crisis. In Europe 4 or 5 countries have closed all schools, university because the Apex of the epidemic curve is close. In the same time all the CE countries didn't decide yet to close it all because different numbers while all health ministries are in everyday close contacts (video conf). AUthorities must also keep the machin working, economy, supplychain and so on. In US they stopped flights from CE but not Great Britain which is a non sense . Scientists seems to say we all have to manage cluster areas inside the countries cause it's already everywhere. Purpose is to slow the transmission not to full up hospitals in the same time... so make the pick widther instead higher. My basic understanding. Typically it's a everyone citizen job all over the world : travel just when needed, don't put children with grand paren s when the schools close, stop non necessary cultural events and business/turism travels inside and also outside (I readed there is a case of a chineese whom catched again the CV-19 after bein cured ? Duno if fake ?). i think we shall see some States closing the schools and protect people where old people are many. Again, everyday has the situation to be adapted even if some things can be guessed from experience. Not something simple.
I believe there should be also a worldwild solidarity and countries should freeze their markets places all in the same time, but I disgress here while all that can help medecine people is good cause they are going to be involved a lot like it is in Italy (which have a plain relationship with China for the business, so not hazard at all, just a modern country as many, just was touched few weeks sooner. Time management seems the complex thing for gvts and enterprises...and people.

Over 60 years and infants actually can get increased dosage shots.

My father is 86 and he has diabetes, heart operations, high blood pressure etc...you get the picture old, frail and in poor health. Dad get's his vaccines every year and yea, he get a specialized extra strength dosage. He also got his shingles shot about 2 years ago when he was 84. Age and health did exclude him from getting his shingles vaccination.

Unfortunately I have health issues which preclude shingles/chicken pox vaccination. 🙁
Every time I get into indirect contact with chicken pox I have to go to my hospital and get a intramuscular shot of antibodies.

Meanwhile Dr John Campbell tells us the Poland has 31 confirmed cases.
Each and everyone a returnee from abroad and more specifically Italy, Germany, UK and Norway. Italy did NOT return the majority of cases.

I am writing from Italy, because I read in someone's words a lot of skepticism. Schools in Italy have been closed for two weeks now and this was not enough to stop the contagion. Our President Conte yesterday decided to close all the business except for those necessary, the situation is very critical. The country's economy suddendly has stopped, Italy asked to Europe for flexibility on the overcoming of the public debt, beds in intensive care are hardly enough and healthcare is spending billions of euros for new hires, respirators and an improvement of the intensive care, IT IS NOT a simple flu, there are also intubated young people, not only the elderly with pre-existing pluripathology.
Everyone who tell you something different about pur condition is lying! Because they don't want to deal with the problem. It will be a great damage to the world economy.
Now China is helping our Country sending us a big amount surgical masks and respirators...

In the US there are hot issues about getting tested. I have seen nothing about the accuracy of the tests. I doubt they are 100%. is there any info on percentages of false positives/negatives? And how does any entity gear up to make 1 million tests in a week? That's a gargantuan task for almost any product, let alone one that did not exist a few month ago.
California's governor also explained that while having the tests is good the necessary reagents were in short supply. Can anyone provide more info/background?

I'm in the at risk class (68) and I'm meeting with my Father (92 w/ Parkinson's) often so I have a very immediate concern for facts, rather than promisses.
