Anyone built or heard the Ceramico speakers from Java’s Shadzi and Jeff Bagby using the SB CAC drivers and 26CDC tweeter?

Crossover looks very simple, all standard 2nd order at approx. 200hz and 2800hz (single cap and coil on each crossover) with inverted mid and parallel twin 8” woofers in a 2cu.ft sealed box. I have done a quick boxsim model and it all checks out nicely and phase tracks extremely well.

All comment would be useful. Thanks in advance.

If you look at measurements for Revel Performa F228Be you will see that much steeper acoustic slopes are used, as they should because of the cone breakups. Woofers in F228Be are -40dB at 1kHz unlike Ceramicos that has breakups for woofers and mids only at -20dB. I am not sure that those don't have a certain sound character/colorations because of it. I am very sensitive to cone resonances so i'd probably pass or redesign the crossover completely. I'd use at least 4th order crossover slopes with those drivers.

For that to claim you should have one with steeper slopes and other with suggested crossover for a direct comparison, and compared in known enviroment/room, of course. This way, music will come out of it but could it be better/more neutral - we'll never know. I do like the looks of Ceramicos though.

These are not fullrange drivers! Normal crossovers will make resonances inaudible in a multiway speaker. This is a 3-way!
If you want something better, choose Vifa paper cones of Accuton CELLs!

Just for comparison a bit more dificult 8" aluminium woofer H1208-08 L22RN4X/P

Having heard the Ceramicos myself and with some good listening time through them, and with a good amount of design experience myself, I don't really have the need to do that. I heard them in 2 different venues, vastly different rooms, and against a vast array of other builds.

The kit is available through Meniscus and includes complete cabinet plans, crossover etc.

Contact Curt Speaker Design Works or Meniscus The Travelers Loudspeaker Kit - Meniscus Audio for more complete information regarding frequency response, impedance etc.

BTW, the Travelers are an open back mid monitor design similar to the Statements, Anthologys and Bordeaux so plan on 12" - 18" clearance around the speaker with no large objects between the speakers that will block the back sound wave.

I'll also add that any design created by Curt or Jeff Bagby will be exceptional. They both have decades of speaker designs that have been praised and compared to the best available. Build with confidence.

There is no better or worse here - just different. I do like metal cones more than paper though - but that's just my personal preference. Crossover, if not done correctly, will not make resonances inaudible.

I could never make a judgement based on listening in a venue. More so if there is a bunch of people around me. I do think that one always needs to compare everything - just for reference point.

At Revel they didn't make the crossover as they did for no reason. I just want to point that out and it is on OP to decide for himself if it makes sense. One can make Ceramicos and listen. Tweaking and redesigning the crossover is always an option - given the good quality of the drivers used. If it sounds good as is, the better.
