I recently bought this thing for cheap, and I'm ready to split it open and solder if necessary.
It makes a lot of noise even without a tape in it. And even when an external speaker is connected.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

Is the noise (I hear a sort of hiss) electrical noise coming from the internal speaker (and external speaker) or is it simply mechanical noise coming from the moving parts?
Tape players are inherently noisy because of their mechanical nature, but the noise is masked when playing music.
Upload a video where there's music playing so we can gauge the nuisance level of the noise.
P.S. Welcome to the forum!

Thanks for your reply 🙂
It's definitely electrical and its volume corresponds to the volume knob. When I max out the volume knob, the hiss almost drowns the music.
I'm not home today, so I can't make a video. Sorry
