Smart plugs - noise?

Smart home technology is going to take off big style over the course of the next 18 months. It would be great to use a voice controlled smart plug to turn on my hi fi system, but should I be worried about noise being introduced into the power supply? Are such plugs only active when switching on or off, or are they continuously interacting with your wi fi ?

I am switching power to the power amp on my family room system, which is used for both music and TV sound through a Kasa smart plug. The power amp is a DIY build using a pair each of Tom Christiansen's Modulus 86 and Parallel 86 amplifier boards driven by two of his Power 86 power supplies. The speakers are Linkwitz LXmini. I do not hear any artifacts in the sound related to the use of the smart plug...YMMV.

Interesting, especially as I too have Tom’s (fabulous) amps!

chrisb,

I built the LXminis about 4 years ago. They didn't replace anything, I have a pair of Linkwitz Orion 3.3.1s for my main system that I built 10 years ago and when SL brought out the Mini it was a great fit for me as a second system in my family room for both music listening and as a TV sound system. Initially the power amp used was an old Carver 4 channel that I had laying around. I had been following Tom Christiansen's efforts here at DIYaudio and decided to build an amp to upgrade the capability of the Carver. I used his Modulus 86 to drive the full range driver and Parallel 86 for the base drive. A pair of his Power 86 power supplies completes the package. I'm very satisfied with the performance of this system and the sound quality continues to surprise and delight.
