Can we assume that the coaxial horn to LF diaphragm transition has been refined?

Yes, they invested in custom machining along with Eminence. As I understand it, 2 versions of each driver were made, 1 for pro (Eminence) and 1 for home (Denovo). The measurements are for the home units, which presumably have more "hifi" features than the high power handling, etc, of pro units. I need more speakers like a hole in the head, but these... I do have cabs sitting ready for 12"s OR 15"s.

Either way, those are by far the most consistent polars I've seen for a coax. I need to measure my JBLs, they similarly have a well managed throat/cone transition.

I agree they are much improved. It would be quite an expensive project but a stand mount speaker 'cube' with top, bottom and side mounted woofers would be interesting. The benefits would be to reduce excursion of the coaxial woofer and extend low frequency pattern control. Probably the power demands would not be feasible for four drivers in such a small space though. Beyond my current budget anyway....

The information here:
Hyperlite™ Coaxials | HiFiCircuit
would suggest that the deveno version has a different transition and so may have superior polar to the Eminence

Do you have the JBL control 12" coaxials? 322C? I'm curious about those. How are they working for you? They seem to have paid close attention to the transition.

Hi Bill:

I actually have the 328CTs. They're 8"s and come with integrated transformers (which I removed). I got a quad of these and got a little freaky with the design- see the album (hopefully this works!). Imgur: The magic of the Internet

Basically they're a waveguided (the stock units used a metal guide I duplicated and improved transitions in wood) coax in a configurable dual-speaker arrangement- you get somewhat different performance from bipole or dipole wiring, but there are side cancellations regardless.

I have to get a good outdoor measurement setup, I can do it now that I have a yahd (moved to Massachusetts).
