As a general rule, the best mid range is a small ~full range driver, which is desirable in my second example.

..and the Dynavox LY302F that I posted is a small diameter "full-range" driver, that's at just about the right efficiency given baffle-step loss for the Seas midbass.
It has an excellent off-axis response: allowing for a wide variety of crossover choices.
It also has outstanding performance with respect to higher-order non-linear distortion.

I missed those Dynavox as the link didn't work.
They look interesting.
Costly outside the US at first search, but I didn't really dig.
Who makes Dynavox now...
I only ask, as my Fountek, apparently used to be Dynavox (guessing a name change/buyout/merger)

GM,
Like I said, not available in the UK.
$36 for a pair without delivery is a bargain if your in the US.
.
Shipping and import duty/VAT is regional, and I dont know what that would mean for the OP.
For me, I cant see delivery costs without registering an account with all my details, but I'd guess it would be more than the drivers themselves, from previous experience. And then theres import VAT.
For the OP, I'd try the Dynavox for certain if I can get them at a reasonable cost. I cant, and never saw them available locally so sadly cant.
But I'm quite happy with the Monacor I suggested, but I'd be happy to try all of them, given the time and money

Though from US stock, it looks like it's only 16 pounds for delivery (and hopefully that's per ORDER):

(..I'm assuming other fees/taxes are included for the UK price, from Farnell.)
..and I'm really hating this routing URL thing going on with this website.
(..to be fair though, Tim's site has it's own problems with URL's.)
Speaker driver measurements: 2-4" midrange, full range

The Monacor's are substantially more efficient, even with the average 4 ohms (MSH 116 seen below vs. the 115 - which is also more efficient). That can be a problem given baffle-step compensation and the Seas midbass. They also are considerably more directive higher in freq.. (..an excellent midrange though.)

..and are too efficient for your midbass. 😉 (..unless of course you are taking the midrange lower in freq. than is practical.)
GM,

I only posted them because you said the link didn't work, figuring someone might want them.........
GM
me too 😉
p.s.
probably dome could be better...
I really would like to try a good dome out some day, but honestly, none seems to perform any better then a good cone mid
domes seems to have less dispersion, limited bandwidth, higher distortion.
and still many music lovers prefere it over a cone mid, so i need to test it for my self 🙂
GM, my bad, my interpretation was flawed.
Lot of that going around recently, so been 'writing it off' to the 'Dog Days of Summer', which has been particularly nasty around the world this year.

Best I've tried is an Altec 1.4" compression driver with 2.8" alum. dome with the rear cover removed and the throat blocked, so imagine a TAD 4003 with its near 4" alum. dome might be better for going lower. Not cheap, but then truly high performance never is.

Celef,
That's how I feel generally about dome tweeters - I use Visaton G20SC daily and I would dare to say that it is a pretty high end dome, though not in the same league as their ceramic dome KE25.
I like the sound, but in common with many domes I've heard but the change in directivity as it crosses over, or the rise in THD near resonance, is still audible at elevated levels. I cant quite put my finger on it, but it may well be the breakup ring radiator effect Patrick describes.
A good cone tweeter can match a dome well in every way, except dispersion. The flaws of cones are just as evident in listening, beaming response in upper range, break up. But to my ear, they may sometimes be more benign flaws, there are some domes whose breakup is worse sounding than a cone tweet.
Ribbons are another thing altogether, I'm not sure there is any breakup to hear, cavity resonances are almost unavoidable.
following Mayhems post I googled these CSD and THD plots of Fountek neoCD3 and 3.5h, and I was surprised to find them, AND find that they are really rather good, very clean when used appropriately.
