Column PA System/ compat line array/ portable pa system

Hi all,
I'm looking for some advice on what is the best column system out there. I have looked at the EV Evolve 50, RCF Evox 8 and I was impressed. However, I am in a 2 piece band and we do gigs from pubs to dances in large function rooms with 300-400 people. I am afraid that even 2 Evox 8's would not be strong enough for a dance with 300-400 people. I have also seen online that FBT CS1000 but have not seen it in action.

Is there a protable system that is easy to move (transport in my car) and not much dearer that the RCF Evox 8 system can can cater for my needs.

Thanks in advance. 🙂😕

not asking for much are we...? can't say i've used either of the products you've mentioned but have experience with Fishman SA series with the companion sub in soft seat venues of 1000 cap. with good results for a three piece band (drums, bass, guitar+vocals)

IMO no, the system requirements for a 400 person venue are many factors of 10 larger than what can be transported in a car. Is this size of event rare for you or fairly regular? If it's only once or twice a year I'd suggest hiring in an appropriate system for those events and buy a compact speaker system suitable for those more frequent smaller events... which could be one of these column array type systems.

For 400 people experiencing feel-the-bass volume and dancing, you need lots more than what a column speaker will give you. I'd suggest 2x 15" subs a side as a minimum, and not the cheap ones. 1KW AES power handling per box, and an amp big enough to drive them all with headroom is the sort of thing I'd be looking for.

For 400 people in the venue and 50 people on the dancefloor, you can get away with less. If you're willing to sacrifice some bottom-end extension, a pair of 12"s in tapped horns will give you some thump. Add some good 8-10" tops and away you go.

Column speakers have their uses, but IMO those are limited to the places where form factor comes above sound.
