No, it just means if there's no evidence it has no credibilityMhm, does that mean in your book there is no difference between a description of a subjective perceptual description and a assertion about a certain property of a test protocol?
I believe you meant former, not latter.. and I agree entirely. The peer review comes in the form of adoption of the technology or methodology. Given the politics of publication peer review (and gaming), I'd argue the latter is infinitely more important than any publication.
Eventually what I've worked on will come out, both as conference presentations at PAC's as well as published in literature...by my co-workers (and word of mouth from the visiting researchers when they find our repeatability is 3 orders of magnitude better), I'm not interested in standing in front of a few hundred people with a time limit, leave that to the yunguns..
I just finished working with two interns, one going into senior year, one junior. Massive capability in those two... I went to the Intern program head and detailed the fact that the education of these guys is not complete, consistent with what I've found at the ScB, Ms, and PhD levels... He is interested in setting up a workshop with several local univ engineering faculties to address the weaknesses in the univ programs locally to bolster what we see as weakness.
If such a program can be setup, my work here is done...

I don't know what beef a couple of people have with you and I don't actually care.
The obvious difference in 'I don't actually care' was what I was wondering about.
I share the sentiments about the development of this thread but obviously the moderators will not (or can not) help. So it is up to us to care about the situation and unfortunately I think the "I don't care what beef other members have" does not help either.
The lack of backlash seems to encourage those members to spoil it whenever possible and (again unfortunately) it seems that a few members - who previously (IMO mainly correctly) claimed to be objectivist are now acting more as if the wholy grail could be to prohibit any discussion about topics being contrary to their own beliefs.
..... is posting now somewhere else is of zero relevance to me. Hence my comment.
Methinks your post contained something different, but ok.
So, that means, honesty and consistency is not of importance wrt methodology of propper sensory experiments?
That is a surprising point of view.
mmerrill99,
The fact remains, Stuart is not present here to say anything about this or any other subject. Drop it.
He must have really impressed you to have you continue commenting after he has been long gone.

As I may have noted I have a lot of dependants and a full time job. I don't have time to understand every long running niggle people have if it doesn't stop me having a reasonable conversation on a topic. Sorry hours are limited and the big mouser box that came today wont get opened if I keep posting here. The obvious difference in 'I don't actually care' was what I was wondering about.
If you post in THIS thread you have to accept that the rules are stretched. Hence wondering why I bother. I don't know which members you are talking about but some of the cr*p spouted on here needs to be pulled up. If that puts me in the crusade camp I can live with that.

It means that due to some language barrier or lack of visual clues you are not spotting that I am at odds with your views and getting annoyed by you hanging onto certain things like a terrier dog. I have no personal reason to flame on at you as our previous exchanges have been friendly and respectful so I tried to politely point this out but missed the mark. Time to draw a line and regroup on some other topic...
This is an open thread in an open part of the forum, so it is not hidden in any way.
The posts in the other forum are posted in an open thread visible to any visitor of that forum.
The critic is clearly pointed out and does not contain any smokescreens so it is IMO questionable if the descriptor "behind ones back" really fits.

Let me just check that I understand you correctly.mmerrill99 said:When you see him next you might ask about his change in attitude about Positive controls in sensory testing that he now states on ASR Vs what he used to state here
It's interesting to read the follow on post on ASR where someone says about positive controls "it depends" (which is what he used to say in his posts here) & his answer is "In sensory research, it's the norm. This isn't pharmacology, so not surprisingly, the experimental design needs to be different."
Interesting in his change of position.
If he says that he has learned something along the way then I would be impressed but judging from his history of posts, I doubt it.
You criticise SY for saying 'X' in the past.
You criticise him for now saying 'not X'.
Does not this suggest that your problem is with SY and not his views? Has he upset you?
@ billshurv,
points taken, but I hope you understand that time and other constraints are given for others (me for example) as well.
Mutual understanding is obviously not easily reached in forums but I try to do my best. Otoh I've to reject the notion that it is solely my obligation ......

@Jakob: How about we park it as a 'beer discussion' should our paths cross in the real world? I understand time is short and it doesn't help when one or two troublemakers hang around here to wait until you save a couple of works then leap out to attack. They know who they are. Makes it very wearing.
The second least liked SME arm. I have the least liked as does syn08 🙂
Fidelity is heading steadily downhill and I'm having fun.
😀
One doesn't have to 'hunt' for SY's posts on positive controls - just today he posted on ASR
Posting stuff from other forums is borderline unreasonable.
Performance artists, like SY, operate by the same technique magicians use - by directing attention to what they want the audience to focus on not what is important. SY's 'tests' were similarly circumscribed to those tests that would support his worldview, not a scientific endeavour for 'truth' (whatever that might be?).
Well, that hits the 11 on the BS-o-meter....
I guess the warranty expired on Sy's PhD and proven track record in research, development, and peer review.
I certainly cannot blame him for discontinuing discussion here. I also find most of this to be not my cup of tea.

To concur with others -- good to see you back!
There has been some real stuff.... Keantoken's dialogue on skin effect. more good tests from PMA to name but two!
Plus a brief diversion into speakers that may entertain you...

Bill.. Despite being 100% digital now, I do still have a dirty secret - a lot of carefully archived (properly designed storage boxes) vinyl in the attic (circa 500 albums) and my favourite vinyl reader still in tip top condition.. technics SL10....
No peaking. When I say double blind that's what I mean.Peeking included...
@PMA, yes, we all know HD and IMD are produced by the same nonlinearity (in most cases, Bruno's lastest switching amps might be an exception), the difference is the stimulus. A single sine wave doesn't result in IMD. Doh!
I get that you go hunting the web for things SY posts for you to critise, but It is starting to come across as very very very petty on your part?
It probably seems more petty the more one likes Sy, misses him, and wishes for his return. If one has been ridiculed by Sy, then pointing out Sy's imperfections may seem much less unfair.
OK badly recorded ska covers of beatles tracks is my current hunt.
Much better than a teenage band playing covers on traditional Chinese instruments.

Fun deck if you know how to fettle it!

Whilst I am only human I think quoting something someone does elsewhere on the internet is poor form in general. This is my personal view. I may have been guilty of it in the past, but we should all strive to be better people despite others.
I have been ridiculed by SY and I deserved it at the time.
I'm not quite sure why people don't bother to understand what is written though. The trolls on here I get, they want to cause trouble and I they can be ignored. You used to be so much better. This thread has not been good for you as a person looking at how your tone has changed in the last couple of years.
But I'm out. bad music to find and threads which are not as toxic.
