All I can say is 'you lucky batsrad'. Last 2 years I've got 0.5 worse in both eyes AND I don't have the close up focus I used to enjoy. I got intolerant to contact lenses a couple of years ago so I'm onto varifocals now.My vision gets better with age. That is normal for nearsightedness.
In the grand scheme though its not too bad. I'm still in the -4.5ish area (20/400) and peripheral is all fine. I've known people who were -9 in their 20s.
I measure my 'age' and physical ability not by being able to run a mile in 10 minutes or having to not go the John 3 times during the night but by the fact that I can solder a SOD323 down perfectly. I need my +2 glasses (I bought 5 pairs on Amazon for £12) but other than that I'm still performing. I use +1.5's for reading. The wife has varifocals - its taken her some time to get used to them.
I've needed glasses since I was 8. Even before then life was a blur.
Varifocals are a PITA when doing things like changing lightbulbs or working on the car. I am seriously considering a pair just for that sort of work rather than keep going on feel.
As the old saying goes, a man is as old as the woman he feels. Wife agrees with me 🙂

I memorized the eye chart to avoid the 4-eyes moniker E F P T O Z L P
E D F. If anyone notices these things they are enforcing the copyright on the original eye chart and in most commercials it is a more random set of letters.

Why would someone with near perfect uncorrected vision need to distort their eyes, and how long could anything like this last? Sounds more like a ritual/folklore kind of thing the world is full of these and many are spiritually wonderful.
Because Oriental Japanese have a tendency towards shortsightedness with advancing age, and pressure on the eyeball will temporarily distort the shape so as to give longsightedness. Not folklore or anything spiritually wonderful.

The human scull changes in shape with age, thus near sight vision tends to improve - fact.
Historically, Japanese army archers (of a certain age) would lie down on the ground before battle with stone pebbles over their eyes to flatten the eyeballs for improved long distance vision - fact.
Only 1% of the population over the age of 75 have perfect 20-20 vision - fact.

Flattening the eyes would make you nearsighted.
I still hot-swap, I have a pair of glasses for driving/walking/TV/reallife and a pair for "work" meaning 1-3ft. Currently anything closer is an issue, but I prefer the dedicated lenses for computer use or cooking or reading. I haven't soldered anything since my cataract surgery, I think I am still OK for through-hole with a magnifier to check my work. Getting old sucks.
Oriental Japanese
You could clean this up a little.

There is obviously something wrong with my skull. Or maybe not, maybe they really are using much finer print on pill bottles these days.
Myopia is usually caused by the eye being too long. However flattening the cornea doesn't sound like a very good idea to me.Flattening the eyes would make you nearsighted.

As opposed to occidental Japanese? 😀

I can't believe I've made it to 69 without a single prescription to fill for anything. I'm probably doing without any number of things that I should be taking but I'm not dead yet.

You need a better personal physician! With the current state of medivinw they should be able to find something wrong.
Really depends on the doctor, some prescribe far more often than others.
Best wishes on acomplishing your goal. 😉

My mother is 96 no end in sight.

It isn’t a very good idea, but that is what they did.

Meaning what?
Meaning what?
"Oriental Japanese" is something my mother might have said in 1960.

What exactly are you trying to say?
My mother is 96 no end in sight.
Great for her, and your father?

Referring to someone as "Oriental Japanese" is trite and unaware. Did you ever see What's Up, Tiger Lily by Woody Allen.
Great for her, and your father?
Long gone, it was the war you know.
