Jeff Young, c2cthomas, WBS and all for whom dogs count as best friends!

Really nice pair of bowlers Jeff! Working dogs? Bet they bring back a lot of turf given your location!

Back in the days when I lived in Ireland I trained quite a few Labs as non-slip retrievers. A few English Pointers as well...but they are a more difficult animal as their instinct is to hunt rather than please the owner!!

The dachshund pics are because I am collecting pics for a friend who is writing an amusing but informative book on the breed. c2cthomas - when he is not swinging through his family tree - has a good knowledge and great affection for the breed. The in preparation Dachshund book is a follow on from a serious book on a Salmon fishing book for our local river, the great Tweed. This was a big success and I am proud that I did the original production design and all of the illustration mechanical work plus a lot of original photography. Attached is a pic of the cover: the castle is Floors Castle here in Kelso...I live about 1/3 mile away. The swan with cygnets was there when I took the shot...however the salmon is - I must admit - a photoshop insert...the first I ever attempted. The angler is the author, Bill Quarry.

:)

while I'm typing this , I yell at crazy doggie to stop harassing cats .... she is crazy , playing with them as they are of same weight and size

:)

:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Bench Power Supplies for Single and Double Polarity Projects

It is my intention to build many of the Pass amplifier circuits that have been documented over the the years. My goal is not the duplicate the circuitry. Instead, I want to play with parameters. I am more interested in learning about parameters than in building a final product.
Although I have bench supplies, I intend to use DIY supplies. Maybe no more than two - a single polarity and a dual polarity.
After reading through the projects on DIYAudio, Passdiy, and FirstWatt; it appears that a plus/minus 100 VDC supply would cover all projects. I realize that the components to build a 100 VDC supply will be more expensive than the components to build a 24 VDC supply. I want to be able to vary rail voltage as a parameter; as was done for DeLite.
My question. Can a plus/minus 100 VDC supply be used for voltage outputs ranging from 100 (93) VDC down to 12VDC by swapping, as needed, regulator boards? Perhaps by varying Zener stacks akin to ZV3Fig2 (single polarity) and ZV3Fig6 (double polarity) to achieve the desired voltages for a given project?

@lae2

You do realise that you have posted a serious question [I think] in the thread which is designed by idiots for idiots, extinct non-flying birds of yore and possessors of two or less brain cells?

That said there are one or two people here who can answer your questions, but there is also a whole forum devoted to power supplies which can be found here:

https://www.diyaudio.com/forums/power-supplies/

Good question though!

My question is OT within the scope of Pass designed PSs. Nonetheless, my deepest apologies.

within First Watt format , pretty much everything is based on xformer with two independent 18Vac secondaries

so - it can be either +/-24Vdc (nominally , in praxis more like 22V5dc) , two independent 24Vdc rails , one 24Vdc rail with double current capacity , one 48Vdc rail

I'm not overly enthusiastic when voltage regs are in question for power amp rails

you can stack these (mentioned ) cells , if you want more voltage

Thank you for the information. Deeply appreciated. Perhaps I target the +/-24VDC FW format to keep me busy. Are the push/pull single output pair amplifiers (‎IXFN140N30P‎/‎IXTN40P50P‎) are also running off +/-24VDC rails? Thank you for commenting.

Give us a wee more direction, boyo.
1/3 mile North, East, South or West of Floors castle ?

(what a huge number of facilities in Kelso for such a small town)

The KELSO to EDINBURGH road forms the EASTERN boundary to the Floors Castle Park. Take the EAST GATE out of Floors turn left toward Edinburgh. Then take the first Right (to the EAST) turn marked to Stichill...I am located in the very second roadside house on the RIGHT HAND SIDE of that road! I will take a picture tomorrow of the view of what you see on your approach.
