But black doesn't go nicely with the beech IKEA furniture
I don't see how the powder coat Black mild steel would cost more than say powder coat silver. It used to be economically viable to offer the choice in the past but apparently not now.
Perhaps it is a vicious circle.. more black things are made so supply/demand makes black material cheaper so more black things are made....etc.

I have a black PC, black keyboard, black printer and black monitor on a beech desk. Looks OK to me.
One of the best designs that i know are those of old 1964 Sansui AU-111 amp.
I like the symmetry of the controls on that one. And it doesn't look over the top or bling but also doesn't look blank.

Black is a neutral colour so goes with any other furniture.
Orange is the new black - or so it was back in the 60's. Orange Amplifiers are very nice to look at too! ToS
Just the other day while considering alternatives to the plain black box, I chuckled at the thought of red fur. Like the old red metallic Kustom amps, but fuzzy instead.
Maybe cheetah would be better...
"Merv and the Magictones?"
Sorry - I just couldn't help myself...
And still going strong!Orange Amplifiers are very nice to look at too!
