Frankly I do not understand why dome mids are not used more often.
Because of their high distortion under 1Khz which requires a crossover in the most sensitive range, thin sound and they`re harder to countersink with standard routers. Soft domes are also prone to diaphragm bending which will happen lower in the frequency response compared to soft dome tweeters.

wow, that's utter nonsense
And then some, I should say. I have a hypothesis on why there is not more of these in contemporary designed products. Ever increasing costs and complexity and the fact that not just every manufacturer (one man show) knows how to successfully design a 4 way loudspeaker.
