Believe it or not, I like diyAudio just the way it is. It works really well, and doesn't need fixing. And in a way, because it is so labyrinthine, I find myself ending up in places of learning that I never knew existed. I reckon if someone really wants to learn, then they have to work at it.
The mods do a brilliant job, are tolerant to a fault, and collectively have a pretty good understanding of human nature - for which I am entirely grateful. Pano in particular.
The only real difficulty that I have had with diyAudio is the occasional minor run in with some, but not all of the audio cardigans. As a practicing artist, I have come to realise we would be lost at sea without them. Like life jackets, we need more cardigans. I should know, my dad was a cardigan, and I miss him terribly.

You have mentioned a number of times as being an "artist", I'm interested to know what sort of artist you are?
I drink more beer than my friends so they describe me as a p*ss artist.

I used to be a fully fledged professional photographer, and had quite an adventurous life with it. Mainly outdoor location work, landscape, architecture within landscape, photo-reportage within landscape. Worked in high-end advertising and all the way down to scraping the local government barrel. In the end, no matter which way I looked at it, I was just another camera for hire, and after it all went sour I finally realised that I needed to find another identity. So I began the often painful and still ongoing process of becoming an artist. In my case, I see myself as an optical painter, and very exacting work it is too. I work with defracted (not refracted) light, and it usually takes about a month to complete a picture.
Is this what is known as Light Diffraction Art? I would love to see an example of your work, especially if it has a Scottish influence.I work with defracted (not refracted) light.

My mate used to get drunk in winter and wee in the snow making patterns.
Now he really was a p!!!! artist.

Don't eat the yellow snow... YouTube
That's certainly how I see it. Mostly they take the hobby far too seriously. Sometime I have to glance up at the title bar to see if I haven't wondered into diy Utra-HiFi by mistake. I do love super high end audio, but isn't there room here for fun? For practicality? For trying, failing and learning? Audio and music are supposed to bring us joy. Shouldn't the hobby do the same?
With due respect Pano, but who are you to decide how I should experience my hobby??
Who really knows if their quality is going down hill? Who's measuring?
And who is deciding? A new sort of forum police?

Taking the thread even lower, I'm reminded of an old joke where the punchline was, " Hey, that's my wife's handwriting".

I work with a high dynamic range panoramic pinhole camera rig that I have put together myself. A pinhole is just a hole in a thin sheet of metal in front of a camera sensor chip, small enough to cause light to defract. The resulting image is neither in nor out of focus, and is completely rectilinear in the way it renders perspective. After that, it gets really complicated, and it has taken me about seven years to finally master my current technique. The result is a huge gigapixel type sized image. As far as I know, I'm the only person in the world doing it.
As an eleven year plus incomer, it has taken me a very long time to even begin to understand the vagaries of the Scottish Highlands light and landscape. I have a one man show coming up in 2020, and really want to set the world alight with what I am doing.
I could post up a small jpeg, but I don't think it would adequately represent my aspirations: the problem being is that most of the pictures I am working on are around two gigabytes in size, and are meant to be viewed at anything up to 6 metres in length by 2 metres in height in order to get the true visceral visual effect of what I am trying to achieve.
I know a wee about the physics of photography so find your work interesting, but I'm no artist (whatever Nigel may say!).The resulting image is neither in nor out of focus, and is completely rectilinear in the way it renders perspective.
I understand that pinhole photographs have nearly infinite depth of field so that objects at different distances all appear in focus. However, the image resolution depends on the size of the pinhole. Small is good, but too small and the increased diffraction effects make the image less clear.
I also understand that, since there is no lens distortion, wide angle images remain rectilinear (i.e. no curving of straight lines at the edges of the image).
All interesting ways to manipulate an image in an artistic manner.
I understand why you don't want to post a small image - you are aiming more for camera obscura size!
Good luck with your enterprise!
Gurus have the nasty habit of entering and pooping the n00b playground. See the classic op amp rolling threads.
How about the pre-ringing threads, with the pictures of Nyquist violating signals as proof?

Need no stinkin’ Nyquist if it sounds good.
Sometimes it has been suggested that we can solve this problem, by labelling some people as 'gurus'. The problem then is identifying them - there would be little agreement, so it would just move the problem not solve it.
Exactly. Argument would be well justified because really all it would end up being is a glorified popularity contest.
There are some indisputable 'gurus' and 'experts' on here, but others who are just good at collecting other people's experiences and pretending it was their own, to project an image of knowledge.
I think putting labels on people will not alleviate the trepidation felt by newbies wanting to join in, and only inflate the egos of others that don't deserve the 'title' they may receive.
😀 True enough. But it happens all the time here. Usually telling people their ideas or gear just isn't good enough, not worth wasting time on.With due respect Pano, but who are you to decide how I should experience my hobby??
Not that I should be preaching to the publisher of Linear Audio.

Interesting. Apparently I have looked at ONE of those threads---
Looking down that list of threads what strikes me is that I have not even read most of them, let alone participated in them.
Bottom line: there is a weak or no connection between the quality and the length/popularity of a thread.
These gave me a big chuckle. You haven't posted in, or even visited most of the 40 most viewed threads on the forum, but you are here on this thread. 😛 Maybe syn08 is right.
I am not ashamed. I've visited all those threads, read thru most of them and posted in a good number. But then it would be unethical of a moderator not to.

This is a ridiculous statement, you do it all the time. The LDR impressions thread comes to mind. You can tell the subjectivist what transparency means. or any thread that says a person is listening to an "effects box" if the amps distortion is more than .003%

What is a subjectivist?
Not sure how this adds to this forum. I will discuss with the other Mods why this thread should even exist. If you don't understand that thought, then consider yourself part the problem.
