quality of new threads going downhill

WoW - I'm really feeling the Xmas spirit here - is that sarcasm? 😀

I don't think I poetically forgot the whole quote, just never really learnt it properly in the first place - my internet buddy 😛

Mis/incomplete quotations interest me, how they are (mis)used. How people say things as if they are fact when they are far from it......"money is the root of all evil"...for example

Whaat? I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. You must be confusing me with someone else on a different thread 😕

You forget easily...

I can relate to that. Hearing Christmas music in supermarkets makes me feel ill to the point of having full blown panic attacks.

Some of us still shop for gifts and exchange them at Christmas and even go around the neighborhood and sing carols for our friends and neighbors. We enjoy enjoy Christmas music in supermarkets. Please don't act like you don't have your own personal agenda.

Rather than pay too much attention to news of current events around the world, I’m self-medicating on the glut of treacly Christmas movies that stream this time of year. One of their numerous recurring tropes that is “but, it’s Christmas, when anything is possible”, including for some of us perhaps, brief flashes of self-awareness that we are capable of agendas, carefully hidden from ourselves. For me, the “goodwill to all” lies in accepting without rancour and reprisal when we get called out on that.

An agenda? What nonsense! It's a cultural thing ...... in U.K. supermarkets we have at Christmas the musical sounds of the artistes Slade, Wizzard, plus John & Yoko, and have done so for the past 40 years. And that's it, over and over again everywhere you go, until you feel like screaming your head off. Try and enjoy my sense of humour while I try and find yours.

Just be grateful you have never heard of Showaddywaddy or Kajagoogoo. 😛

Ohhh, I don't think I've heard that one before. Is it like when guitarists talk about shimmering mids? And here's me thinking slam is what happens to a door.

Am I being sarcastic enough? Or do I need more exclamation marks?

Too Shy was in heavy rotation on MTV for a year or so in the early 80's and the Neverending Story got burned out on pop radio. Never heard of Showaddywaddy, they didn't make it across the pond.

Sometimes I just read every word, and don't bother to post if it's likely to raise my blood pressure......oh, no what did I just do......don't hit submit.....no no......

That's a good tip. I also find it helpful to just walk away early. Post what you know, if somebody rebutts with nonsense just walk away, your point was made for anybody smart enough to see it, even if they don't seem to be participating in the thread!! 😀

I feel your pain ....... well not really. 😛 I recently discovered the edit button, a universal panacea for all known regrets and etiquette misdemeanours.

I don't think Showaddywaddy made it out of Leicester.

... are yous partying at the keyboard? Xmas and all that. 😉

Nope, was clean sober, had a work day, posted before going about messing with wires and soldering iron out in the cold.
Tried to bring the thread back on track, but it seems to become harder to have a steady decline in quality over time. Maybe we need a committee on that...

Now I discovered 60% and sour apple juice (organic, grass fed, free range apples and whatnot... No wonder they're so sour!) really does mix quite well. 🙂
Gonna enjoy it to the best of my ability.

Really, we still do Nat King Cole and a lot from the early 60's including my favorite lounge version of The Little Drummer Boy. Yes I never heard of those things you mention. I like Yoko in another context "The Fly" gets some action.

You don't have an agenda, that's hilarious. You post at length about how the lounge should be moderated etc.

This xmas I have not heard any of the listed above. I must have just hit the supermarkets at the right time this year.

Musical tastes on here are diverse. I welcome that as would be so boring if we all liked the same stuff.

I really like the ca 1963 Lounge version of Let Me See from Morcheeba, does not have any connection to Christmas, but still pretty good, and seeing as you mentioned the 60's and Lounge, fits right in!
YouTube

Wish I could keep goin' on AJ and 60%, but gotta stop so I won't go to bed on a rising buzz... So I got 20 minutes to kill.

I recall being asked to donate (money) to help with the server and data costs associated with diyaudio.
Archiving and disseminating long discussions about 'Beautiful women' and 'what are you drinking' aren't on my list of audio hobbyist information that deserves my support!

Any contribution is made to benefit the whole community. Everyone in a community has their own tastes and dislikes. You don't like beautiful women and drinking? Fine. I'm not much interested in Exotics and Planars but I fully appreciate that others are and am happy that my donation also supports their interests.

Also, in the cognitive dissonance department: Bemoaning the lack of women who participate here whilst continuing some of the 'Lounge' discussions....

Maybe but there is nothing stopping anyone from adding a 'beautiful men' thread..

Obviously it would be great to welcome more members of the fairer sex but traditionally DIY and Audio aren't high on their interest list - here is a study to back that statement before I get jumped on ;-) ((PDF) Men and Things, Women and People: A Meta-Analysis of Sex Differences in Interests)

Anyway, we are digressing from the original thread topic.....
