Hello All

1) I am searching for a source for a PCB and parts for single ended ECL86/PCL86 amplifier. Can anyone please point me to a reliable source for it.? i have bunch of ECL86 tubes still with me and would like to build a couple of amps.
2) also i would need an OPT design for the single ended ECL86 amp (approx 10 watt.)
3) OPT design of a 15 watt push pull ECL86 amp would also be nice to have as my next project would be a pushpull ECL86 audio amp.

I can get the OPT wound to specs if i have the specs.

Thanks in Advance!!

Warm Regards

I could find a PCB for ECL86/PCL86 SE and maybe for also PP but you need to wait until Christmas when I go back to Italy.
Can also see for ready to use OPT's, both SE and PP. Very good performance, not just the usual cheap stuff used in this kind of amplifiers.

Thanks a lot to you all for your inputs!!

I had built an SE amp with ecl86 an year back . it sounded nice but had oscillations. somebody adviced to go for a proper layout and ideally a pcb based one to avoid oscillations. Its why i am looking for such PCB design or the parts itself.

link to the test video YouTube

the loud buzz would always be there but only if I unplugged the input cable from the amp. Yes i do have a bunch of these tubes still left ( 50). gave away a few.

Warm Regards
Amit

I'd be happy to share my ECL82/PCL82 KiCAD files if you want to modify them for a xCL86? Get your own set of 10 made at PCBway etc.

PCL82/ECL82 SE PCB design - thoughts?

But P2P would be doable.

thanks!! i would like to have the pcb drawings since i have some of ECL82 but many others i have are UCL82

Hello everyone, I find this ECL82 tube as one of the best sounding i ever listened to. After i built it P2P style, i also made some PCBs. Planning on making some more amps for garage and hobby room :) I also made an anode power supply PCB and for heater. Have not tested all of them - ordering needed components. I can also share my design with you.

This is my finished amplifier:

Anode psu PCB is a mosfet based ripple filter for a dead silent amplifier. I will share some more photos and circuits when i get home from work.

If you dont think i am writing off topic :)

Hi,

Thanks a lot for sharing your success. Your amp looks exceptionally beautiful. specially the graphite blacks. I would definately be happy to get all the PC boards for it made here if you could share the design.

in the end the goal is great sound which you seem to have achieved so all else is just the path to it. the tone matters ..for me it should be pleasing and soothing and not harsh just for the sake of meeting the measurement benchmarks.

have a nice day and do drop me a message directly if u can send the PCB drawings to me

Warm regards
Amit

Didn't Elektor publish a design for a ECL86 amplifier? Might be wrong there, but Mullard did a High Quality ECL86 amplifier I think, though that will be PtoP.

Andy.

Hi

I saw the mullard schematics. the layout for actual wiring wasnt there for the single ended version.

Amit

Besides the heaters, ECL82, PCL82 and UCL82 are the same tubes. Don't be tempted to feed the UCL82's 50 volts heaters directly from the mains, though!
Best regards!
Yes :). of course the UCL 82 is like 50 volts on the filament! i wonder why they chose it.and if that had a logic to it why the others didnt follow and make only UCL versions.

ECL86 Baby Huey Push-Pull

Hi Amit,

I don't have a single end ECL86 version, but this is a very good ECL86 or PCL86 push-pull version which will give you about 12 W with a 8k output transformer.

The Baby Huey concept give a very good musicality and if you are interested you can read more here post 1670 : EL84 Amp - Baby Huey and in the entire thread about the shunt feedback which give an incredible sound to this small amplifier :)

After this PCL86 version, I have made an EL84 Baby Huey version and an EL34 Baby Huey version (see pictures) ; EL34 Baby Huey Amplifier that has been built by more than 100 people in 5 Group Buy ( more than 500 PCB sold !) : GB for Baby Huey PCB :D

The concept is validated and all versions have been fully tested !

Best regards,
Marc
