Gives me visions of the slaughterman driving around in a van blasting out Greensleeves chimes...Mobile abattoirs kinder for animals, say farmers | News | The Times
Sorry didn't realise you had to pay....anyway, you get the idea
Haha, ok, but I don't think the animals are going to know what it means even if it did play a tune 😉
In the US the mobile abattoirs were used for the slaughter of wild horses that were culled for population control. People were understandable upset about this, and the slaughter of the wild horses was made illegal. Result? The horses are loaded into trailers and driven to Canada to be slaughtered.
How did I learn about this? From a group of equine veterinarians who - surprisingly - all supported the local slaughter of wild horses. They were very vocal about it. There reasoning was that if the wild horses weren't culled, many died a slow death of starvation. And culling and packing them into trailers for a long ride to Canada only increased the suffering. (apparently very bad).
Unintended consequences.

Much of it seems to be about a disconnect in the minds of people. The most important thing is they mustn't be upset?
I suspect that normal people don't like being upset. 😉 Nothing remarkable there, or that they would want to end cruel practices. The problem is that it's difficult to know the whole picture and what the unintended consequences might be. Cold hard logic rarely wins the day.The most important thing is they mustn't be upset?
But we are getting better at thinking about that. Was just reading today about clever genetic engineering that can wipe out entire mosquito populations. Great for preventing dengue and malaria, but the researchers are rightly cautious about killing off a large part of the food chain. Bad experiences have taught us to think ahead.
Nice qualifier 🙂 It's tough to face reality at times, I understand why people want to turn away, in whatever form that takes for them, doesn't get us very far though when you look at the big picture which is what I try to do. Admittedly for my own selfish reasons too.
It's as tough to face reality as to know what reality actually is. "DDT is good for you" "Fats are bad for you" "Plague is cause by bad air". And so on. We try to do our best.
Fruit carving competitor?Curiously I have a kitchen full of knives, but don't butcher or eat meat. What could this mean?![]()

Must have been defense against other human invaders? Those arrowheads, on the other hand....

It's tough to face reality at times
From Philip K. Dick >
Reality is that which refuses to go away when I stop believing in it
Or pesky members of one's own tribe, if we remember 2001 a Space Odyssey.Must have been defense against other human invaders?
One of the great pleasures is a glass or two of Barossa Shiraz with a grass fed South Devon steak [the best of all the beef and I have tried it all].
To many like me it is the classic combination of certain wines and food that makes life worth living and very often those classic combinations involve meat, seafood or cheese.

In Blade Runner 2049, the future protein farms rely on insect larva.

"Black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) are used to compost waste or convert the waste into animal feed. The harvested pupae and prepupae are eaten by poultry, fish, pigs, lizards, turtles, and even dogs. The wastes include fresh manure and food wastes of both animal and vegetable origin."
