why I'm slightly hysteric - I sent some itsybitsies to Pa , and USPS tracking is showing failed delivery attempt of package , with some mumble about problems with address ..... with supposed delivery attempt again today

I've sent e-mail to Pa ,asking to check from his side , but trouble is that he's always having zillion of e-mails to check ....

I'm pretty sure that I printed proper address , and would hate getting that back , on this side of Big Splash

well , I know that "immediately" is sane , normal and logical praxis .

though , untill I get delivery confirmation , I'm not believing they're practicing that ....... praxis

:)

The problem is that the package was sent to my physical address via
USPS and there is no mail delivery at Sea Ranch.

The post office will hold a package for a few days, so I will go collect it
today. Nice chance for me to buy a new Sea Ranch cap, the only place
they sell them, the old one left at Inverness and the backup being small.

I will report back.....

looking from here , not just that you folks are walking on ceiling , but you are using P.O. Box for opposite purpose , too

:clown:

anyway , what is the reason to have 2 separate addresses ....... I'm having one , sole , unified - for everything Mail , same as I'm having one bill for all 3 mains phases , not 3 separate ones

anyway - ZM being dumb , nothing new ;

luckily ..... Nelson Pass , Ca ........ that's enough for all purposes

The Sea Ranch is an unincorporated community and the USPS typically only recognizes incorporated areas. Based on what was posted above, my guess is that The Sea Ranch obtained a P.O. Box at the nearest Post Office and had a ZIP Code created just for it. All correspondence addressed to that ZIP Code is routinely picked-up by a community representative and distributed to the residents.

USPS tracking messages can be opaque.

In the 1700s mail went to the General Store next to the docks; you went there to get mail.

Our government established post offices. At some point they began delivery to in-town addresses, farmers had to come into town. But farmers got to be a huge political movement, and RFD was established. That's the only way I get mail at my house; otherwise I'd have to come in from the woods to town. Maybe 99% of US houses get mail delivery.

Sea Ranch is a strange place. I have driven through it; do not remember it. (It was designed to blend-in with the scenery.) Many of the houses are not occupied year round. Some of the people may go there on weekends to get away from mail. The post office *seems* to be in the lobby of the local lodge (hotel). There seems to be no beer or pizza in Sea Ranch? A quaint place.

Pass says there is no mail delivery to his place. Normally the PO would hold his mail for some time. If he has been there a while, the postmistress would sure hold Mr Pass's mail.

However the house number and the Tracking complicates the simple life. The tracking will not be happy until Pass gets the package. But the PO has no code for "Mr Pass will probably come around and get it when convenient."

And you never know: some new PO regulation (or a jam in the small PO) *might* cause it to be sent back after a few days. So you were right to alert Pass to get his package before something stupid happened to it.

Sadder story: my Dad was in the Army. His parents sent a Christmas package to his base in Kansas. But meanwhile he had been transferred to a winter camp in upper Colorado. Letters were forwarded, but packages held where addressed. It was not until Spring that he got down from the mountains and back to Kansas. He had the ticket. The clerks looked around, got the postmaster, who apologized: "We had to kick it outside, it smelled bad and was drawing flies." He found the box--- it was apparently a lovely cake.
