😉 !!!! There are also one way straight slotted screws that are not easily removed. Slot shoulders to drive in and tapered ramps in the reverse direction.

One of my favorite house warming kits for lawyers etc., contains both sizes of sink traps, hammer, small saw, screwdriver assortment, pipe wrench, crescent wrench and a left handed threaded light bulb! They are made for housing projects so the tenants only steal one bulb from the common areas.

Amazing what you can find these days.

Easy to make, use the gun black chemicals. Then when dry place them on a tray and lightly spray paint black from 360 degrees around. Highs the tray to expose unpainted area and repeat the light spray.

Tom - Fastener Superstore has lots of options, but not at quick glance the exact combination you cite. With a sufficient order and lead time, who knows how far they’d care to go?

I think I used these guys for three pitch sizes of black oxidized button head hex machine screws about 10 or so years back. Their website sucks, but phone & in person service was good back then.

I suppose that's an option. I'd much rather just buy the screws the way I need them to be. I might order a few hundred screws at a time, so I'm not likely to be able to take advantage of any sort of economy of scale with custom treated screws.

Unfortunately, it does not appear you can order through their website or even see their inventory. Oh, well.

I normally shop at McMaster-Carr. They're probably not the cheapest outfit in town, but their website is awesome. Their search engine makes things really easy to find. Also, their inventory is second to none.

If there is something McMaster Carr doesn't carry give them a call and ask. They may transfer your call to a specialist buyer and find you some or even add the part to their catalog. I only did this once for a specialty nut and it is now a stock part.

As to their prices, I generally find cheaper places are often of lower quality. The exception is some items are available from the manufacturer if buying in larger quantities.


Also it is easier to make screws black than it sounds. McMaster Carr caries the tool black as a liquid. Use a paper cup and a quick dip and swirl will do. Do not mix the used solution with the unused as it will kill it.

Then spread the parts out on an old cookie sheet or plastic tray. Spray from all four sides with a light coat of paint. Shake the tray and repeat. Under five minutes and you have a few hundred black thingies. Fewer if bigger.
