cone excursion issues - WinISD (what am i doing wrong?!?)

Hi all

I've been designing a box for my Morel Ultimo 10inch and finding issues with the cone excursion. the box is showing the sub hitting it's xmax with a bit over 150w yet it can take 1000wrms (3000max)

these are graphs of 150w / 300w and 1000w. i've added a 3rd order 25hz high pass but the first peak is still very high.

what am i doing wrong? this can't be right? have i messed up a TS driver parameter or something?

You are doing it right. The 1000 W figure is about the claimed thermal power handling, i.e. when the coil starts to burn. WinISD calculates the mechanical power handling, i.e. when the woofer is driven beyond it's linear range. Mechanical power handling is quite low in your simulation because it appears you are using a large, low tuned vented enclosure.

Such high power woofers usually are designed to be put into a tiny closed enclosure and have some form of equalizing to give them a flat response.

Your issue appears to be a bit extreme, but I also was modeling issues with the Morel Ultimo SC 12 that I was considering using. It ran out of excursion in lower bass frequencies at about 600w with a 1.4cuft sealed enclosure. It wasn't hugely over excursion limits so I was considering running it anyways since I read that the Ultimo / Ultimo SC's have about 25mm x-mech.

Instead, I upgraded to a Scanspeak 32w/4878T00 which is a much higher performer than the Ultimo line in the low bass and has much more klippel-verified linear excursion.

From the specification sheet you posted with your original message.

I could see from your Driver Editor screenprint that the values you were using in WinISD were different.

Actually i think they are different woofer, i think i uploaded the wrong ones,

I have the Morel ultimo titanium 10 4ohm(Non SC)
which its TS is

which match my original WinISD details.

The Morel ultimo 104 seems to be different (older woofer maybe?)
