Currently working on a 4345 DIY, using Tasmanian Oak veneer over high grade Euro Birch ply. CAD/CNC'd baffles.
Quality gathering of original drivers....all pristine and tested.
Massive project to upgrade xover, using passive for top three channels, plus active bass.
Gryphon amps will be used.
The gent I'm building these for requested a brighter blue...called Dulux Wing Man. Ports to be painted blue.
I'm refitting the tweeter...so this is incorrectly shown in the photos.
Stands are 100mm tall in matching Oak veneer/trim.
I've had some preliminary listening sessions using my crappy small amps...and these speakers are sounding remarkable.
A wonderful project....not without complexity.

Purdy 🙂
I'd use a blue as close to JBL blue as possible.
But they aren't mine, and ya gotta do what the client requests....

This was discussed at length...but he was keen for something brighter.
See attached pic of an original....quite a lot darker.
Kenrick Sound also seem to have a brighter blue than the original.

There used to be (still is ?) an argument about just what the 'correct' jbl blue is.
Memory tells me one guy did manage to work out the codes and mixing formula.
But even that had issues as not all paint manufacturers have the same shade for the a given code.
As I say though, It's the customers call or you don't get paid 🙂

So, in Australia "they still make them like the use-to"
Andrew,
You are in good company. Troels Gravesen built a JBL-4345 "style" 4-way using European components.

Have you built any interesting New-Tech horn speakers?

Thanks...I didn't know that.
I've built one of Troel's TWQD(?) models....using CAD CNC.

Be careful with the L-pads, they can negatively impact the sound
Thanks. I understand. The client built the xovers...he's using the L-pads to get the best setting, then will hard wire it.
Latest pair finished today, different blue, American Walnut veneer. Mega bracing.

The difference isn't that big, the two pictures were taken with different exposures. These two are closer in exposure:
The 2nd one got a different white-balance, the whole picture is more green-yellow-ish except for the overexposured windows. Your varnish is still more vibrant, vividly and got a different hue. I actually like yours better than the original though.
