Hi Richard,
If I lived closer, within a reasonable distance, I would definitely take you up on that. I'm sure your system would be a good experience, and there would be no end to the things you could talk about!

Wont do any good. i dont have any LP's over here. Nor RIAA preamp. Just bring your uncompressed digital music files on a memory dongle thingy. 🙂
I just received the 3rd edition of Sound Reproduction by F.E.Toole. It is a good summary of the kinds of issues audiophiles are interested in (IMO). Recommended reading for someone interested in loudspeakers and rooms and the psycho of acoustics. 🙂
His list of speaker requirements is like mine. It appears he listens at home in the far far field so acoustics is a big deal for him and a lot is devoted to it. But if you really like that sort of thing, the ASA membership is a better source esp for architects.
KISS -- Listen in the near-field.

I sit 4 feet from my dipoles, which are 6 feet apart, does that qualify as near field? There's 6 feet clear space behind them, this is where the sound seems to come from........

Any time you (all) want to wander off some where on a lark, drop in on your way by.

yes. are they towed in?

Nope, facing straight ahead, they have a rising on axis response (Jordan Eikonas) I've tried them toed in but imagery is better the way I have them.

You know, Richard, I'm not too far away. Be interesting to talk sometime.
Mark.

I would think so.... you are near the side null so most of the sound is coming off the back side and reflected back at you between the two spkr's. Try reversing polarity of both and listen again.
Also hang heavy blanket for absorption behind each spkr and listen.

I tend to use my speakers more akin to large headphones than ambient, pa speakers. 6 feet abart, towed-in, and 4’ away. All in a room with carpet...
Kind of ridiculous, since I can’t just enjoy music while making some food like the old days before better equipment, but it sounds great!
I used to spend hours reading post war popular mechanics magazines, not sure if that level of practical enterprise will ever be repeated again on such a broad scale...

Sorry to say this, Scott, but, with friends like you, who need an enemy ?
Sorry Tryphon I'll never learn that dark humor and sarcasm don't work on forums like this. I assumed Mr Marsh's comment was a joke, it was wasn't it?

It seems we are a dying breed. The tail end of an era maybe. To be dominated by virtual reality audio and video for next gen?

The only good W12 Bentley is a paid off Bentley. I'm still working on it.
Until this home I have now, I had same type house as most do... 8 foot ceiling type. Track home... spec built. But I have been here for the past 20 years and love it. Partially for the views, clean air, quiet and no crime. But also chosen for the Great Room size; The ceiling slopes from 18 feet to 13 feet and is red wood. 35 foot length. 15 feet wide. Very odd shapes and wall to wall carpeting and hidden absorption all around. The white Ritmuller sounds great in there.
All are welcome to come over and listen and have some wine.

Any interest in the new ZR1? 😎

Are you serious ! yes, of course !. and in 2020 the first rear engine Corvette, too. GM is going hard after the Ferrari, Lambo et al crowd. But, I have this little girl genius to get thru college now... so, I will have to live with the new CTS-V for the next 4 years. 🙂 I turned in the last pumped up ZR1 for the new CTS-V with same engine. I have had it a year and only put 6500 miles on it. But its awesome performer and I can still get in/out of it. Thinking of pumping up the boost a few more pounds.
Got Car?

I hope that goes well for you (I don't mean the finances). My wife used to make me go to these "how to pay for college" meetings when the girls were in high school. I said look we are going to write lots of checks end of story. The IRS 589's were a good deal. My Kia Soul gets me where I want to go.
The demonstration of what you write. My sacarstic post was half dark humour too. And, like you, I dislike emoticons.Sorry Tryphon I'll never learn that dark humor and sarcasm don't work on forums like this. I assumed Mr Marsh's comment was a joke, it was wasn't it?
