It's really funny, I soldered it onto a PCB (but used an IC socket just in case), added auxiliary mp3 input and output volume control, and put it in a box. Now it is also working with a 9V battery (even with the ones that I put aside earlier deeming them out of sufficient charge). So everything is fine now, maybe one week away from the project was all I needed.
Maybe! It's amazing how letting go and stepping back for a while can solve problems sometimes.
