If we used a 40v transformer, wouldn’t the dc voltage after the cap Mx be around 50vdc?
i think also a 2x30V AC transformer with the capmu will end at about 2x36-37 V DC
thanks Vunce🙂
count me in for one pair as well 🙂 :

X, et all:
Bourns 3296 series for the variable resistors (R105, R125, R127) ?
Thanks!
Blue vertical mount trim pot with brass screw on top side?
That's what I always use, it looks like we could use a BOM from JPS64 about now.
Hugh:
Thanks for your informative reply.
I have always been most interested in the "whys" for design choices.
Hope all is well with you these days!

Hi Michael,
Thanks for your post, perceptive question.....

Yes sir:
Electronic Components and Parts Search | DigiKey Electronics
I've pulled most of the positions/values from the most recent schematic to place my mouser/digikey orders.
Would like to confirm with a BOM though, in case I missed anything.
Hi Pcgab,
Do you have a shareable shopping cart (BOM)? I don't see anything when I click on the above except portal to search for parts.

Here's the short link for that part:
3296W-1-104LF Bourns Inc. | Potentiometers, Variable Resistors | DigiKey
If you want, I can download my order to xls. It's just the parts I didn't have on hand, so not complete. I can put the positions in the spreadsheet, it might be a helpful start.
That 3296 is the subject of about 10 clones from China with names all starting with B...
Bochen, Bolong, Bocher, Baoter, Burans, Bonens, Baoshi,
Is it bad to use these knockoffs from performance standpoint I wonder? I do know that metal oxide resistors, used in the wrong location increases distortion. Like feedback resistors, main source resistors, etc.
Some ebay surfing shows some promising heatsinks. These have SuperMicro rack server sinks have a huge copper area. LGA1366 puts out more than 100W which is what we need on the Big Boy.

BenY,
Heavy gate drive is essential in class AB where switching transitions require large charge flow.
Class A means output devices do not switch, so driving even large gates is greatly relaxed.

Hard to say, the 1/2w ones aren't terribly expensive, and they're certainly easy to acquire.
The Dell's you recommended were easy for me to find. In fact, the place I ordered them from is only 1.5hrs away, so they got delivered very quickly!
NEW Dell Precision Workstation 690 T7400 CPU Copper Cooling Heatsink FD841 | eBay
Hi everyone,
I wanted to share what I found out about the Dell FD841 cpu coolers.
There are two versions of the FD841:
One has the full copper rectangle base which is the preferred and carries 73304 in the model number,
the other has a diamond shaped copper base that will not work for the Big Boy ALPHA. The diamond shaped cooler could possibly work with the ALPHA 20w since it uses single transistors.

Good catch Vunce!
It looks like all 4 of mine that I ordered are the rectangle base. I'm building a 20w, but nice to know I have options in the future 😀
I purchased a quad from the a seller and two were the "diamond" version😡
So, I ordered from the same seller you did😀
All good now🙂

They shipped pretty quick, fair price too.
I'm trying to plan out a chassis now, using an Antek an-5218 transformer and a diyaudio universal psu, and a soft start kit.
I want to keep the heatsinks vertical, as that takes full advantage of the heat pipes, I think.
