Pre amp power supply capacitors recap.

The original preamp psu has very little space.
So the question is, the original capacitors are 4x1000uf/100v with 2200 ripple current.
I have found a much better quality capacitor but 820uf/100v with 2850 ripple current.

Is this a good recap selection or I have to stick with 1000uf or more?

When re-capping I always consider matching physical case size and lead spacing job number one.
Even for bulk smoothing caps I almost never look at matching ripple ratings, if I do its never been a problem. If you match physical size and voltage you will have increased capacitance to double sometimes more esp. on very old gear. In the case of smaller Elytics <200uF, I will increase the caps voltage and temperature ratings keeping the capacitance closer in tolerance to get good size matches.

No problem, that's within normal tolerances, and the old ones likely have less capacitance
than that by now anyway.

My experience has been many times capacitance and esr will increase esp. on smaller values. If I cant take the time to measure leakage I look for significant changes in any caps value, say past 30-50%. IMO leakage is the tell tale sign of a troubled capacitor.

The problem is that the manufacturer has put in Jamicon capacitors and I am trying to recap with Nichicon KG gold tune or even super through capacitors which by nature are much larger. The only way to fit in is to put a smaller capacitance but even in that case the ripple current it's higher than the original fitted.
I haven't bothered measure the leakage because I am recapping those capacitors for better sound quality on a Class A Nuvistor pre amplifier from Musical Fidelity.

I see a brand changing procedure, the ultimate test is visual confirmation.
Too bad you cant slip new fancy heat shrink over the existing caps.😀
Not sure, I think ripple rating is only a calculated number. all else being equal, the applications lower capacitance value has more ripple voltage dV so the current is naturally higher.
