Geek Out 450 and Windows 10?

Hey all. 🙂

I have a Geek Out 450 that I'm using on my Windows 10 laptop (HP Envy 13-ab016nr). System is as follows.

Sansui 8900zdb all original AFAIK
Pioneer PL-255 TT all original AFAIK
LH Geek Out 450 Silver using supplied USB cable
HP Envy 13-ab016nr laptop latest Win 10 version
Rad Shack 3.5 mm to Stereo RCA's (mid to high end one) into aux jacks on receiver from 47ohm out on DAC
Run off Monster Power HTS 2600 MKII power filter/surge suppressor
Speakers:
Canton Quinto 540 all original AFAIK
16 GA speaker wire from Home Depot (will be upgraded when budget allows)

I installed the DAC a couple of weeks ago. No problems. Windows 10 just upgraded itself. Now the LH Control Panel is not working for the DAC. And it says driver is unavailable, and driver error.

There's not much info. And everything on their site says Geek Out V.2 when I look at drivers. Do these just use the same drivers I'm assuming? If so. Should I use the latest 3.26 ones? Or the older 2.29 I think it is? Is this unit a V.2? It's not very clear.

The DAC is working right now, but I want to be able to adjust the settings to alter the sound of possible. I just got the speakers, and they're on the bright side. So I'm hoping I can find something in the settings to tame them? Plus I just want to make it work like it's supposed to anyway. Any help is appreciated.

Thank you guys 🙂

That's one of the pittfalls of Windows.

Have you tried deinstalling the driver software and reinstalling it afterwards? That sometimes resolves the issue.

Thank you both for your help. I really appreciate it. 🙂

But my problem is that it's not clear what driver to actually use. It doesn't list this DAC exactly. On their page it says the drivers are for Geek Out V. 2 but doesn't say what V. 2 even is. Or whether mine is version 1 or 2. And there's really no other useful info on the internet about this, or really, any of their DAC's.

So my question is:

What driver do I use for my Geek Out 450?

They have a couple listed. I tried one, and may try it again. Maybe the update I did just messed it up? But I would like conformation on the driver first though. I don't have problems with Windows (used it since Win98). At least not like I've seen some people have. And I think it's because I'm very careful about what I install on my computer.

I'm trying to continue that trend. 😉

Thanks again

Sorry forgot to answer your question directly. 🙂

That's what I'll most likely do. But I'd like to try the newer one instead. However I'm not even sure it's for this DAC. And it's working now. Just without the ability to use the software to do any adjustments. So it's no emergency. I'd rather wait, then have a problem. I've been busy. I need to email the guy I got it from too, but I don't think he's any more knowledgeable then you, or I. Or email the company. Maybe this weekend. Now it's bedtime.

Thanks again
