Wiring a single subwoofer into system...

I currently have a bookshelf-type speaker system setup.
A simple diagram of what it basically consists of is shown in the attached image.

ACTUAL COMPONENTS:

-Amp board: Sure Electronics AA-AB32155 2x15W at 4 Ohm TA2024 Class-D Audio Amplifier.
-Full range speakers: Dayton Audio ND90-8 3-1/2" Aluminum Cone Full-Range Driver 8 Ohm. Frequency Response: 80 to 15,000 Hz
-Tweeters: Goldwood GT-510 1" Soft Dome Tweeter. Frequency Response: 3,000 to 20,000 Hz. Capacitor: Dayton Audio PMPC-4.7 4.7uF 250V


It sounds pretty decent overall, but is missing a little on the lows.
So, I'm considering adding a single mono-woofer.


I am thinking that I would like for the woofer to have its own volume pot. This way, the bass can be controlled. I'm assuming in this case, it would need its own amp.
What would be the best way to do this? ... Could you simply split the audio (L & R) wires with a Y-connection straight from the main volume pot?
Then, one direction could go to the existing amp and speakers, and the other direction would go to an added volume pot which would go to the sub-amp from there.


Does that sound like a good way to do this?


This is a very DIY build, so, i'm not interested in buying expensive large mass-produced components (if you know what I mean)...

Yep, that should work! For an amp board, Sure sells monoblocks too. Pick a higher wattage for he sub as you'll probably want the headroom. If you top out your amps at the end of the RMS, you'll experience a little bit of a tinny feeling and sounding bass; like a bad limiter.
 
These are mass produced, but they'd probably be a pain in the butt to do yourself considering this is line level stuff hm.

You are talking about the Sure Electronics? If so, yes, they're basically mass-produced. But, their products are at the level of DIY i'm interested in. For the project i'm putting together, I really just shouldn't be using anything that is enclosed in a chassis, (name-brand), etc. -and I just need everything to be bare-bones and minimal.

The monoblock amps from Sure would probably work well. So, splitting the audio line in two directions wouldn't cause it to lose any strength or anything? (i'm still a fresh beginning in this topic)

I have 125V of "audio" (60Hz) in my walls.

I connect one lamp, 124.99V. I connect a lot of lamps, 124V. All just "Y" wired together. Wired like your audio split (though with appropriate power connectors).

Yes, there is "drop". When the well-pump kicks in (sucks like 50 lamps) the 125V drops to 115V and lamps dim a wee bit.

The typical line output will drive many line inputs. Up to 10, worst will happen is it plays a hair less loud, but you have a knob for that and most systems have way ample gain in reserve.
