That is the same cap I believe.

I have had a pair for around four years now - I tinker with everything else but not them😉

No! ~actually it's NOT!!

OK, Tony Gee has given an answer to my question about what caps he tested from Obbligato [aluminium-foil MKP 630VDC - 5% tolerance] 🙂

His response...

"Hi Ian,

The Obbligato capacitors I reviewed [not the re-branded SCR version!] have since been replaced by the Obbligato Gold Premium caps. I haven't auditioned the Gold Premium caps yet so I can't say if they are the same or not.
On the website of DIY Supply it looks as if I have tested the Obbligato Copper Caps with solid copper case, but that is not the case! (pun intended)

The other type I tried are the Film Oil Caps that are still available.

I have attached a photo of the two types I tested a few years ago - 2009 to be exact! On the photo are also some SCR caps of 8,2uF and 10uF just for scale.
You are free to quote me on this. 🙂

Kind regards,
Tony Gee"

Humble Homemade Hifi

So it was the big ones laying down.

Mystery solved 😉

Edit: A big thank you to Tony for the comprehensive, and quick reply to my question.

I have tried the SCR's - they degraded the signal rather badly.

SCR = Solen

Of course, there is also the benefit of the doubt. Maybe Obbligato requires some special sauce to be added to the capacitor recipe, which raises it above Solen class and into the 10+ humble rating.

EDIT

Sorry, read late the last post. Glad things are now clear

also looking @ http://www.soniccraft.com/product_info.php/gen-sonicap-47-uf-200vdc-p-434
measures D 23MM X L 32MM. Should fit with a bit of fettling!
Verdict: 8,5 on 'humble'. "I can advise them if you are looking for a high-end cap but are in a relatively tight space. Quite nice" 🙂

Not familiar with the Sonicaps except for the Platinums which i have and dislike.

From the pics it seems you need 4 because of the balanced out. Cost can really become a factor.

What about the Mundorf line? The MKP @250v will readily fit, or maybe the plain Supreme? I know your cap bible rates them as common dirt, but they are really not so bad.

Yes, '4' is needed.

The MKP @250v will fit; HOWEVER rated below my JB-JSX! @ 'humble'. More or less the same price too.
The plain Supreme is too big!
The ZN M-CAP will just about fit (very tight). Well outside the demarcated area.

"Putting a O,OluF Vishay MKP1837 parallel to Mundorf's (a good tweak for nearly any capacitor) can create even more detail and separation! They reveal micro-information in a way that reminds me of a Hovland Musicap but without the Hovland loudness effect."
