Tattoo You?

I get constantly amazed at the number of people getting their bodies coloured in. Besides having a low pain threshold there are a few other reasons why I have never been tempted.
Who can remember the 70's and those ugly platform shoes, huge flared pants and wide lapels etc? Luckily we were able to ditch all that when the fashion changed, but what will happen when tattoos go out of fashion?
I can also remember those old veterans with tattoos that had bled across their skin over the years making them illegible, could this still happen?
When we were young teens, 4 of us went up to a Soho tattoo parlour, myself as an observer and one friend backed out. One kid got scroll on his forearm containing "Mother" and a small Swallow between his thumb and forefinger.
When we left school we did not all keep in touch and it was in our 20's that I met up again with 'the guy with the Swallow tattoo' and he hated it. He kept the hand with the tattoo in his pocket and was under the doctor because it bothered him so much and was waiting for it to be removed under the NHS.

The tattoos still bleed over time, especially with stretching of skin. There are going to be a lot of really ugly Tats in about 30 years.

I considered getting one, but never could imagine something I'd like to adorn my body with for the rest of my life.

Scars are Tattoos with more interesting stories.

Once you accept ear piercing, you accept mutilation for beauty*. Then its just a matter of how extreme. Remember the old B&W movies where women would take off their clip ons to answer the phone?

*or vanity/fashion/herd mentality.

Tat culture - for whatever reason, our local Costco outlet is heavily laden with check-out staff sporting some pretty damned impressive amounts of very colorful exposed skin art , and multiple ear / nose / lip piercings - even earlobe plugs. Someone with a fervid / puerile imagination can only wonder how far such coverage extends . Also hard to keep from thinking - pastel multi-color arm sleeves/ on their salary?

Since one of the functions of such visible body modifications is to call attention to themselves, and some of the artwork is breathtakingly detailed and creative in working with the contours of the "canvas", I sometimes find it hard not to appreciate the aesthetics . But indeed, 30 / 40 yrs hence will be an entirely different story.

"Judge not lest ye be judged"
Unless you put yourself in a position where you will be judged because you want to be judged. I have a similar view on goatees as tatts; either too little or too much self-esteem. Either way, not good or something with which I want to be associated, and won't. The silliest self-adornment ever concocted.

For me, no pictures or perforations.

Personally I find them hideous.....especially on woman. I loathe piercings as well, except maybe a simple single hole ear piercing. I can homestly say that if I were to enter into a new relationship with a woman to find that she had a large tattoo over her back or legs or arms I would not continue with the relationship. There is a strange psychological thing going here with the adornment of body art using pain. This is odd, to say the least.

There is this inexplicable habit of humans to act like sheep with 'fashion' related phenomena and it amuses me more than anything else. (each to their own) Take the recent 'beard' explosion. I have nothing against beards whatsoever, but suddenly every other man walking has decided to grow a beard, as if someone has said "it's OK lads, we can all grow a beard" It's a bit pathetic really. I've never grown one because I have never wanted one and I'm not going to start growing one just to keep up with the latest fashion. The world is full of people just copying each others behaviours. Think for yourselves people!

A tattoo parlour opened in a town where I used to live where there was none before and suddenly the arms and legs of the local inhabitants became increasingly covered in truely awful tattoos. Cheap little ones limited by budget gradually blending together and ending up looking like they have been scrawled on by a gang of 'Sharpie' wielding kids having a laugh whilst sprawled out unconscious through drink.

Exactly......I think I'm correct in saying that in France the rule goes that (for a woman) you apply makeup to your mouth or to your eyes, but not both. Some girls/woman now do eyes, eye lashes (false) , eyebrows, hair + extensions, lips, ears, (piercings), nose, (piercings) tanning, foundation, tattoos, waxings etc etc.
oh and a good wash over with some 'scent' of some description.

"what do you actually look like"?

Perfume and aftershave is yet another adornment which is meant to achieve what exactly. One should only smell it if you get really close. Some fair percentage of people (men and woman) seem to wash themselves in it. Revolting in close proximity.

Dreadlocks is another 'fashion statement' that I find perplexing.

'My hair washes itself' is often stated.

So why does it smell?

What company in their right mind would employ as a receptionist, for example, someone who has dreads, a visible tattoo and facial piercings other than a pair of small discrete earrings ( and I don't mean stretched earlobes with a huge grommet ) ?

Ha Ha Hipsters..... Don't you think they're cute, and original too? Apparently it's all about "authenticity".... I can't believe they're ALL lumberjacks

I'd invest your laundry money in Laser parlors.

Removal of tattoos with laser technology has been available for at least 3 decades.

(me tats since age 12, pierced bodyparts for over 30 years. By the time I hit 75, if I make it that long, I'll have to track a tat shop that will add a signature in Full Technicolor on my rear : Giant Azzhole)
