I'm always amazed at how much value they offer for the money... And yes I expect that the noise floor should not be a problem with a subwoofer given the obviously low HF cutoff.. 🙂
I imagine your mom will have something to say about the additional SPLs in the low, low, low bass.

Tline tuned to 19Hz 😉
Should I make some pictures of my current setup and see what you think of it? I like my setup. My 8" Tline for sure. Goes down deep and loud 'till 25Hz on only 50 ish watts. Crazy how that thing performs. I once got a 6" to do the same. Not as loud though, as it was a 30w driver.

Okay. I'm at the dentists office now. I'll see what I can do at home. Beware, its cheap. Looking.
That is true in a sense. However, generally hi-fi is supposed to be sufficiently close to the original sound that most people will be satisfied by it - in the sense that the reproduced sound is indistinguishable from the original sound. Many people will require less than this; a few will require more than this.HumbleDeer said:Does that exclude that someone can have a transparancy level at which the changes are no longer noticable, hence their level of hi-fi lays there?
This is quite different from the situation we often face, where people actively prefer non-hi-fi sound. They can tell it doesn't sound like the original (or there is no original) but they prefer it anyway.
For example. consider amplifier distortion. For hi-fi most people need something like 'less than 0.5%' at peaks (I can't remember the exact figure, but it is something like that - and it assumes mainly low order distortion). There will be some people who genuinely need less than 0.1%, but these are a small minority. Many will be happy with 2%.
The issue is this: a significant number of people think 2% (or even 5%) sounds better than 0.5%. They claim to want hi-fi, but actually do not. They invent stories about how obtaining 0.5% instead of 2% destroys the sound. They think negative feedback is evil. They say 0.5% sounds bland or clinical, whereas 2% sounds musical. They think their 2% has more 'fidelity' than 0.5%.
That is why the test of hi-fi always has to be 'does it sound like the original sound', rather than 'do I like it'.
Hmm, that's a standpoint I haven't considered. Good to know.
My amplifier, according to specifications, has 0.09%THD-something / 1w. I don't know if that's good or bad, but I take it with a bucket of sea salt .
Oh and, 14Gauge electrical cables.. I use one for my subwoofer. Works equally well as a 12Gauge purpose bought cable. At least for now, really. But my room setup and accoustics will never be good enough to need better cabling with.

Haha, maybe. This Tline isn't very well designed though. It's sturdy but misses alot of SPL in 43ish to 47ish frequencies, and around 75-85.Looks solid and well built to me. I suspect better built than my Onken inspired bass bins.
Quick question:
What do y'all think of the Emotiva MC-700, their latest product, as a competitor for the refurbished NuForce AVP-18 that I wanted to buy?

i'm.. Not 16. I'm 15.
You seem extraordinarily knowledgeable, well spoken, mature, and sophisticated for a 15 year old. For someone so smart, are you sure it's wise to keep pointing out that you are only 15?
I'm not all that interested in "hi-fi" and the audiphool culture,I just enjoy building things and listening to them. I just want a system that is loud and clean,no rubs and rattles.I want exciting, detailed and energetic sound.Well,I struggle with that on my budget.

Well, I am 15. I wouldn't lie about my age. If you lie about things, it'll always come to light. Honesty lasts longer.
I was considering putting my identity card on here and blinding out my details,
but after all, I'm not really interested in some creep stealing my identity.
My experience is that women hate hi-fi and everything to do with hi-fi. I do not know why this is so.
Women think newer = better ALWAYS. I rarely let a woman into my workshop, and when I do I'm always sorry. Bitch and criticize is all they do. A brand new Coby (the cheapest of the cheap) integrated system is automatically better than my vintage collection of equipment, JUST BECAUSE.
And don't offer to fix anything for a woman. All they care about is that it's done and done fast. You'll never score any gratitude points by fixing a woman's car etc. It's just what took so long? Why did it cost so much?
It's a cruel prank by nature, I tell ya. Or maybe it's incomplete evolution. I'm just glad I'm a man I guess.
Just read your post and I see some parallels here. Repairs need to be done fast and without explanation. Any advice will be ignored/forgotten and when it breaks down because of that you are the one to blame. Men should take this into account. I know a woman which is kind of temperamental (that is close to mental). She had her car checked and the guy told here to have the brakes changed within a few weeks (of course she got there in a hurry as she needed to go shopping). Wrong !!
She drove around (always in a hurry) for half a year and suddenly had to brake for a passing child. The car had its brakes completely locked as the disks had cracked and had to be towed away. Of course the guy at the garage was at fault. She told she would never go to such an incompetent garage again.
She once got directions not to drive in a street as workers were busy fixing the stones etc. The road was blocked but she got out and started moving the road blocks. Then a guy came to her. She opened the window and told she needed to pass. The guys told her this was impossible and she started cursing and just drove through and had her car struck in the sand/mud. She got a melt down and just went away simply abandoning the car there.
Goes to show that necessary things need to be told differently as reasoning is not possible. Just tell it needs fixing NOW. When there is choice between two evils make the choice for the best in the long term and tell there is NO other possibility.
Second thing is I used to fix stuff for free but when the device was abused and broke down again the remark was often :"it is broken again and you worked on it one month ago". Cost of parts are always too high and they are met with distrust even when a bill is shown. I learnt the lesson and let them arrange stuff themselves. There are many good ones but IMHO there are more of the kind we described around. Anyway it does not give me satisfaction to work like this.
When someone fixes stuff for money and does the job for a high price the trust is there. Can't figure out why. Even when the repair is done incomplete or wrong the trust is still there and you are the one that is less knowledgeable 🙂 Last year I saw a bathroom that was renovated for 25000 Euro. I did not know the price but said I thought it was a simple but nice looking and functional bathroom. Thunder struck when|I said this. I needed to understand it had cost 25k (which was nowhere to be noticed). This year the kitchen was replaced for a new one with induction stove. Everything was installed and the stove did not work. Turned out that the company had installed a 3 phase 10 kW stove in a single phase house. Obviously this had led to some question marks and stuff was simply left unconnected. When I said that this seemed incompetent to me I got an awkward answer back 😉 It was very expensive so it would be OK.

Fo-me-oown sake now: Should I keep NPN transistors from an old audio amplifier if they're cheap chinese ones? The model nr is H945. Datasheet: H945 Datasheet. H945 Equivalent. Transistor PDF DataSheet. BJT, POWER MOSFET, IGBT, IC, TRIACS CATALOG
Oh and, what about these op-amps? There's two of them on here.
STMicroelectronics MC4558CN

I already pulled off a TDA8510J too.

True, honesty lasts longer ! Still being a 15 year old girl is better not mentioned too often on an almost 100% male international forum as you could draw wrong attention. Wrong attention would be any attention that is not about technical stuff. I know it is not fair but better have people respecting you for your knowledge than you being a young girl. Don't show the card as even if you would be 65 years old it is no business to anyone.
I wish there would be more like you. Would indeed bring some balance. The few women I know that work in technical professions (and are good in what they do) get much respect from the guys. In fact they become "one of the guys" 🙂

You're not far away from home, haha. (Dem puns)
I'll only be active on here in certain segments of the year (though I've noticed I've been much more active on the audio side of things compared to the programming! 😱)
More on topic: I got my mechanical keyboard somewhat back together. I still need to solder on the wires that I accidentally ripped. Nothing big, really. Just some LED lighting. However, my keyboard was expensive enough to no just neglect it. (I don't consider €180-250 cheapo haha)
Aaand: I found that the emotiva preprocessor I posted about in my thread will do fine, too.
Oh and I'll post some photos of my main speakers later today. They're no audiophile speakers, but I find them sounding pretty accurate. I once had a producer sitting in my chair and they said it sounded pretty good, and accurate. That is, in comparison with their own studio and mastering, of course.
I won't show the amp yet though, it's a shame 😛

Did anyone suggest lying? Don't know why you would be thinking about someone lying.
The question was about volunteering your age. For someone so knowledgeable and sophisticated, it seems odd you don't know any better. I think you do know what I am talking about. If you know about things like identity theft, very odd to be ignorant of risks to young women online, yet you carefully omit addressing the real issue.
