Sony vFET Amplifier Part 2

Just a reminder, don't bring up the voltage too slowly with the variac! I think in the article it's stated that it should be around 10 seconds, iirc.

Thanks for that. Before I start applying any voltage to the circuit I plan to read and reread Papa's notes and 6L6's build guide a few hundred times.

I wonder if in this instance, a dim bulb tester is better than a variac for safely firing up a VFET amp the first time.

But, you will probably find some that will sell their kit in the future. The other things in life come up and stop many from fulfilling their plans. If you watch persistently you occasionally find some of the V-fets for sale as well. I do hope the store keeps the brackets and boards in stock.

And where is 6L6's build guide already?😉

Working on it.

😀 😀 😀

There were 300 kits. Nelson wanted a lot of different people to build them, and I think they were pretty widely distributed.

There is an unusual situation where this was the only opportunity to get the parts required for many people, so I do suspect a large percentage are planning to build the amps at "some future time" but maybe not right away. So yes I suspect some wil never get around to it and may well list their kits for sale.

But also think the glowing reports of the performance, people successfully making it, combined with the coming build guide and parts kits will encourage a lot of experienced builders to put these on the top of their lists to make!

I have been really gratified by the success of this effort on several levels -

1) DIY Audio has done a great job of getting these out, and at an
incredibly reasonable price. For that, many thanks.

2) The design is apparently build-able by DIYers and I am confident that
we have enough spare parts to cover the usual incidents and accidents...

3) Everybody seems to love the sound.

I am not certain as to which of these three is the most important to me,
but taken together I am delighted.

I am going to release one more batch (and then I will really be out of parts).

I am thinking of getting a second kit to build balanced/bridged mono blocks.

What power levels could we get by running these amps bridged? Any idea if these could also be run like the f4 withe two channels run in parallel to increase driving capacity into 4ohm?
