USB DAC kit for beginner

I would lean towards something with a separate power supply so as to gain a noticeable improvement, and to stay away from the 27XX usb boards as well.
Maybe something like this perhaps, also available without a case for less;

A relative just got one, made a few mods and is satisfied with the upgrade.
