i have recently built a regulator using the LM317 and am having output stability problems. it appears the design you are using is based on the datasheets. what size is C6, i believe this is your output capacitor? are you using a low ESR type? i am wondering if i need to replace this capacitor in my design with a low ESR type.

finally, what is the current rating for your regulator at 12 V? thanks.
