Who would ever think the RS Minimus 11 could look this good.

If I did this again, I think I would use one of the really thin ribbon tweeters. I like horns and have built several set of horn speakers, but in this case, the horn and compression driver takes up too much room. Here is a WinISD graph. The ideal size for that woof is .25 cu ft. and the Minimus 11 box without the horn and CD is .180 cu ft and with the horn and CD it is down to .135 +/- and you can see what it does to the lower end.

In-room, they sound great with plenty of bass, for the music I listen too, but it can always be better.....this is coming from an old bassist!

Since these are going to be my desk top speakers and I have a 6" gap between the back of my desk and wall, I've thought about adding a 90 degree elbow off the back of these with a capped tube extending down behind the desk to get the internal volume up to the recommended .25 cu ft. It is a inexpensive fix for now.

Geez, it must be getting late. As I typed the last sentence about the extended tube, I shuffled my feet and kicked a subwoofer. Never mind!!!

here are the before and after measurements of the Cap. It did boost it but it also (and this was what I was looking for) pushed the highs out farther. My room is very well treated and the bump in the highs do not scream. It all just sounds bright.

X, that one would work too. At first I was looking for a tweet, ribbon or AMT, that would cover the hole and mount holes, but anything I use, I'd need to make a plate for, so yes, that would be a good one. Here is a shot of my main system and love what the Heils do for it crossed over at 7khz. Also, here is a shot of the woof. It goes out well past 3.5khz so that is not a problem. Either way, having that much more space would really help the low end tremendously.

Hi, a 1 ohm treble load is just very bad, whatever way you want look at it, rgds, sreten.

Its a very poor x/o design. It can be done a lot better.

Djn had a ready made xo and a horn and compression driver top that was about 18dB more sensitive than the woofer. I was the one who suggested the 1ohm treble load to knock it way down to match. Sure, if we started from a clean sheet design it would be different. We probably wouldn't pick a tweeter that is is almost 20dB hot relative to woofer. But for what it is, it works.

My brother came over last night and he checked out my speakers and astutely asked if they were very bassy? (he is not an audio guy) and after talking about subs and possible changing over to an ATM to get more low end, he had a thought and told me he had two cast aluminum bell housings that I could make the subwoofs with.

We found a picture of the exact type he has. I think they are about 1.3 cu ft +/-

I would grind down/off all the sharp edges and smooth them out before they hit the polisher......geez, more work.

Obviously they would be up-firing!

Well, after listening to these constantly for the last 2 weeks, I can say they still sound fantastic. In my small office they have good bass which I didn't expect by looking at the graph. I don't feel a need to hook up the subs , but to be fair, they could use the subs but I am listening while working so I am not listening critically.

Now that I have the mods all worked out, I'm going to sell this pair and do another pair (that I got at SA today for 10 bucks). I'll go with the AMT and do a full blow 3rd order crossover. Getting rid of the horn and CD will give me better low end and, I think, the AMT will be better for near field listening.

Once I get these finished I'll wire up my compaction amp to drive them. Here are pix of the chassis I built a number of years ago.

Hey djn, I have to resurrect this thread and ask you if you went ahead with the updates to the second pair of Minimus 11's you picked up. It sounds like a cool project, and if you've gone any farther I might be interested in piggy backing on your experience. Are you still planning on using the Dual passive radiators?

Had these kicking around for at least 30 yrs (note dust on the woofer), finally got them restored...
Woofer is an 'Arista SP-4' sold once upon-a-time at Jaycar, Tweeter is a Sharp, Xover - 2 inductors & a cap....
