Hi folks,

New member to the forum but a frequent visitor over the past year or so.

I've had ambitions to build my own amp since getting a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering way back in the early 80s. However, marriage, family, mortgages and career got in the way and my interest was only rekindled now they've all disappeared.

Despite my degree, my experience of electronics is limited. I was much more interested in microwave communications - electromagnetic plumbing if you will - which is the way my career went. Consequently, I'm looking forward to exploring and rediscovering the world of electronics.

I've just completed my first 'gainclone' and found the process to be the most enjoyable and rewarding DIY project I've done for a long time. It won't be my first as my son is already hovering like a vulture looking for one of his own.

Looking forward to getting to know some you and picking your brains :D

Did you purchase a gainclone kit?

If so which one?

Considering a build myself, just can't decide which way to go.

I did neo. I initially thought about doing a point-to-point job but not having wielded a soldering iron for decades far less work with electronics I decided to go with the standard LM3875 kit from Audiosector.com

Really nice kit and assembly was a doddle. The only downside being the length of time it took for it to swim across the pond - 3-4 weeks. Worth the wait though and I'm delighted with the sound quality.
