You only live once... Satori TW29RN-B

There are a few recent measurement + hearing reviews including Troels:
"Now, I've checked my most recent tweeter tests, and I can't find any tweeter displaying such low distortion all the way down to 1 kHz.
I've repeated these distortion measurements several times and find them consistent. "

Testing three SBAcoustics tweeters:
SB29RDC-C000-4, SB26ADC-000-4 and Satori TW29RN-B

I used the Satori TW104XR-04F29 in a recent build, the smoothest tweeter I've ever used, incredible sound and response

thanks. I had an eye on this tweeter.. :)

Interesting results (SB29 vs TW29) but I don't find Troels' distortion tests conclusive because they are on a linear scale and showing up to 20% distortion seems a bit excessive. As a result anything more than a few pixels from the bottom of the graph is well into audibly objectionable territory and the only conclusion you can draw from them is that below 1.5KHz the 2nd harmonic is bad on the SB26 and worse on the SB29. Many other good tweeters like the XT25 have higher than normal 2nd harmonic below 1-2kHz but are ultra-clean everywhere else.

Zaph-audios driver tests are on a log scale so you can see distortion much further into the noise floor and more critically the 3rd and 5th orders in detail. -40dB is 1%, -60dB is 0.1% (a couple of pixels on Troel's graphs) and the noise floor of Zaph's setup is better than -80dB (0.01%) from what i've seen which is completely unobservable on the plots that Troels has published. Note that Zaph's test level is referenced to -10dB ish instead of 0.

Zaph's tests of the SB26STAC (yes I know, different SB26 driver but maybe similar motor design) look a lot worse than an SB29 other than the aforementioned lower second harmonic below 1.5KHz:

http://www.zaphaudio.com/tweetermishmash/SBAcoustics_SB29RDC-HD.gif

note the second order of the SB29 in Zaph's testing at around -35dB (1.8%) compared to the fundamental at 1kHz, 90dB@1m, and the SB26STAC at around -40dB (1%). In Troels' test the 2nd order of the SB26ADC is still at or a little over 1% at 1kHz, 90dB@1m and higher order harmonics are basically unobservable so you can't really draw any conclusion beyond the fact that the second order is a little lower in the 1-1.5kHz region than it is on the SB29 and TW29. Unfortunately if the metal dome SB26 is anything like the soft dome version everything else about the distortion profile is worse. I wouldn't cross any of these tweeters below 1.5K LR4 without a waveguide or with the limitation not to run it much louder than 90dB@1meter.

Thanks guys.

What I have now is Seas Prestige 20TFF08 .. and I like it very much.
I have measured it with a UMIK-1 and isn't bad, it has very low THD and very constant.

I have also tried a Dayton Audio PT2C-8 on my setup but it has bump on 2nd order distortion around 4khz and I didn't like much it vertical dispersion.

So I'm looking for an improvement over my very good 20TFF08.

Just to clarify Troels' is referring to the SB26ADC-000-4 metal dome with that low distortion comment.

Personally I would pair a DXT tweeter from SEAS with the Satori for its basic waveguide. Sure a bigger waveguide would offer more directivity control but that isn't always easy to implement.

Thanks for yr recommendation .
the dxt looks very interesting. did you ever measure it?

Zaph has measurements:

It's not bad but it has a double resonance in the impedance which could be difficult to deal with in a passive crossover. It's not really all that sensitive either if you work the crossover to achieve a flat response to 20K. Either that or you end up with a roll off up the top end. edit: this may not be as big of an issue since you're going active.

I feel that you'll get higher performance putting a larger waveguide on a non-WG tweeter - 27TDFC, 27TBFCG, SB29, XT25, RS28/9950-20.

Thanks for the Zaph website.. how is responsible for this site? can I trust it?

I found a interesting tweeter and not super expensive .. SEAS T25CF001 .. a bad side on it is the impedance curve... on the high frequencies...
