How useful is this DSO 138 scope kit?

I built one recently out of interest, it works surprisingly well for something so cheap, and with a small battery its really handy to have a look at audio signals and amplifier outputs.

In no way would it ever replace a proper scope, i would always go to my tektronix if i wanted to look at power supply noise or small signal levels. For $18 just buy it and try it, if anything it will keep you amused some evening putting it together :)

I really want it for displaying sound waves I shape with a modular synth -- eurorack. I want to start building my own modular synth modules using basic electronics (cheap IC's, caps & resistors) .. also want to build an arduino cv controller/sequencer/random generator etc.

I am going to design a eurorack breadboard module. I'm also going to design another module with analog in/out jacks with tiny little breadboards next to those jacks to jumper to the breadboard in an adjacent rack slot. (Both will be printable on 3D printer.) Will provide the STL model files on Thingiverse.

I bought one of these from Amazon (for a little bit more) with the intention of using it for a similar task - hooked up to a Moog so I can see what turning the knobs does to the waveforms. It works very well for that application.

It may not be the easiest 1st build as the solder pads are pretty small, but not all that hard to assemble. The directions are OK.

Have fun.
