I think high speed soft recovery diodes were originally designed for SMPS applications where regular diodes probably don't work well. Audiophiles probably discovered that they make a difference in conventional power supplies.

It seems like all the high-end manufacturers have gone to these diodes in power amps (even Pass), must be a reason other than marketing. Maybe it's something other than ringing?

An excellent idea for Part2 of your "Listening Test Results: The Sonic Signatures of Different Power Supply Diodes" article.Also they are "redundantly paralleled". I've never seen that in any of the amps around here.
British audio designer Ben Duncan in his power supplies uses VDR-s across transformer secondaries instead of RC snubbers.
If you used these Fairchild ultrafast devices in your power supply, I think you could claim it has "redundantly parallel high speed/soft recovery rectifiers" and that statement would not be a lie. It is definitely not a big fat obvious lie.
