A characterization of the noise would be helpful, but bavmike is unwilling to do anything to measure what's happening.
And several of us have pointed out that all it takes is a computer and a half decent sound card. Something anyone doing any audio work should have already set up.
I have to agree. Some measurement would help pinpoint this. Sure it's a hassle, but it's the right thing to do.
I have both boards and all 3 op amps and notice no difference in noise from one board or op amp to the other. Perfect silence at full volume with nothing playing and my ear to the speaker.
And you probably wouldn't as your speakers are only 87db efficient, and the source connected to them has a high noise floor already anyways.
I think what Bavmike is saying is he championed the new board. He observed a slight noise in a tiny way and more so with the Sonic Imagery which I have not tried yet. Like all forums everybody jumps upon the bandwagon and creates a problem that is not there. Hence why you have to be carful what you say. A phone call to Hypex from sensitive soul probably with an "angle" axe to grind, with nothing better to do and I have to increase my prices and am banned from restrained non promoting posts! I'm a bloke in a 4Mx4M log cabin in his garden bringing a good value product. Now with Hypex not being able to supply me NC500's or SMPS till mid May will have to let my employee go and hope I can find an alternative and make it through to May! So yes it truly has exploded the only winners will be the big boys. Feeling pretty sore. (Bavmike your inbox is full.) Incidentally I don't think (hope) Bavmike meant any harm.
I was under the impression that Hypex was aware of what you were selling as you said they helped you with the design of the new buffer board. As for your low pricing, I figured it wouldn't be long before your competitors didn't like that you were undercutting them with a superior product.
A characterization of the noise would be helpful, but bavmike is unwilling to do anything to measure what's happening. It could be that when unboxed (as I believe his unit is) the "Boggit Board" is more sensitive to interference. It could be any number of things. Some measurement would help pinpoint this. Sure it's a hassle, but it's the right thing to do.
Why don't you ask any of the other guys who own the Nord amp with one up buffer board to take some measurements. It's not my product to be posting measurement results. If Boggit wants to have them measured, and share the results, it's up to him, not me.

They were and did, they like what I am doing. I guess they don't like having it rubbed in there face with a telephone call! I don't blame them. The price hike (not to much) should not be a problem.

Given your level of involvement in the process I figured you'd be more amenable, but Boggit, it would indeed be good to verify what, if any, issue there is.

If you have a better product, you shouldn't have to undercut on price anyways. All it does is cheapen the Hypex brand.

I would assume that anyone buying a Nord amp isn't even a hard core DIYer. You, on the other hand, profess to a fair bit of technical knowledge, so I assume it would be easier for you to do the measurements.

If it were my product I would provide the same measurement results as the NC500's themselves. But it isn't my product. And I have no plans on offering a stand alone amp. I'm working on an active speaker system.

Why do you have to increase your prices? They're dictating your margins now? Is the supply issue one for all or do you believe you are being singled out? Nonetheless, I do agree having your business plan susceptible to a 2 month supply chain delay is flying very close to the wind.
What does "banned from restrained non promoting posts" mean?
I do think it's poor form from bavmike to flag a potential issue and then not follow through on helping resolve it. It's a comment that should never have been made on a public forum until resolved, if at all. That said, you are in a position to refute the claim by measuring both boards. It's not a hard process and only requires a decent sound card. Even before doing so you could counter with statements as regards how - if at all - the Nord boards differ from the stock Hypex board.

See colmo, your equipment just isn't as revealing as bavmike's...🙄

I'm not dictating his business plans. I'm just saying his product is good enough that it would still be a good deal if it was the same price as his competitors. You are obviously just trying to stir up crap.

I don't see any issue when 100% of people subjectively like the sound. For those who need an absolute dead noise floor they can order the Hypex boards. The only real issue is with the Sonic Imagery opamp, and he will have to sort it out if he wants it to be compatible with the board.
I have to agree with SGK. If you were really trying to help and be a good guy, you would have had a private word and offered some advice. Just seems like mud slinging on a Public Forum, attempt to tarnish the competitions reputation. You have always had an issue with Boggits pricing. Nobody likes to be ripped off, knowing how much profit there is to be made if prices are rigged...fine if Hypex charge more and make their own profit (kudos, well done with your invention) but doesn't sit well knowing they are promoting a Veblen goods system purposefully. Invention and efficiency should drive DOWN consumer goods ...imagine if each Intel Processor generation cost ten times more...! Well they don't, things get faster, cooler and cheaper

There's no mud slinging here. I said I would share my impressions and I did. The only mud slinging is from you guys who keep going on and on about a tiny bit of noise that nobody who bought the amps even noticed.
And Colin is not competition for me. As I've said numerous times, I'm not building amps. You have no idea how many customers I've sent his way already. Probably the majority of orders he received from North America were due to my recommendation of the amps. And everyone who ordered were thrilled with the amp and upgraded buffer board.
So many people were waiting for my evaluation of the buffer. I'm an honest person, and I gave an honest evaluation. But I'm not going to measure it. Besides all the guys who are loving the amps they bought couldn't care less how they measured anyways. Future customers if concerned with measurements, can buy the Hypex buffers, or wait and see if Colin decide's to have them measured his self. Simple. The upgraded board wouldn't have existed in the first place if I didn't share the idea on here anyways.
Do you have any idea what speaker efficiency means?
Yes. I was referencing your other comment about source noise floors. But you knew that.
I'm not dictating his business plans. I'm just saying his product is good enough that it would still be a good deal if it was the same price as his competitors. You are obviously just trying to stir up crap.
Not at all. Bogota can price his margins as he sees fit.

You have said that the issue isn't linked to the op amp choice. You toss out an unsubstantiated comment which you knew would raise concern. Since you've shown no willingness to either support the claim or support Boggit in resolving it. It's a shame.
At any rate, Boggit is now forced to either combat your observation with measurement and additional customer reports or just hope it goes away. Either way, it could have been handled differently.
As I said I don't think Bavmike is to blame here in fact he has been extremely supportive hence why I sent him some boards as a thank you and thought they may be useful for him. Forum's are inevitably a double edged sword. People love to jump on the slightest issue and blow it out of all proportion. I'm happy with the boards and so are my customers. The guy that started the other thread and posted No 10000 is a proud owner of one of my amps.
I don't know why you guys can't stick to the topic of amps and audio. I bought my Nord amp because of bavmike's support of the nc500 over the nc400, I have twice the power and didn't have to build a case. From my recollection, everyone is so fast to jump on this guy, regardless of what he says/takes back or re-explains his position. He notices a slight bit of noise floor with a certain combination of gear, and you insist he take his amp apart to measure it some more. It's a great amp, it has options of changing the input buffer, and the guy is trying to start a business. I don't think it needs to be absolutely perfect and have perfect twiddly measurements to ensure that it is a stellar amp and has a place in the market. Godspeed to Colin with his efforts to keep Nord moving forward. I think my purchase was an incredible deal, and if he raises his prices good for him.
