Howdy DIYAudio Folks :)

Karl here, I'm part of a Hackerspace in Brisbane, HSBNE. http://www.hsbne.org/ is us. We're right into fiddling with all manner of things, we've got a bunch of facilities, electronics building, laser cutter, lathes, mills, cnc routers, etc. DIY audio bridges a bunch of disciplines really nicely. We're also community/volunteer run, non-profit and all that jazz.

About 12 months ago, we received a donation of N.O.S. audio gear. A whoooole bunch of it.

We've been fiddling with some of it, building various enclosures and crossovers using various calculators and software found around here and have been amazed at what we've been able to produce. Theres been some pretty awful attempts also, but we're having fun, which is the main thing.

We got the following items in the donation;

Tweeters - Seas h0831-06 - http://www.seas.no/index.php…
Drivers - seas h0528-08 -http://www.seas.no/ima…/stories/vintage/pdfdataheet/h528.pdf
Subs - Peerless 830533 - Which I cant find datasheets on.
Amps - aa0510 - which I also cant find datasheets on but I remember they used to be sold in Jaycar stores ages ago. They do a wonderful job of driving the subs.

Along with a bunch of other weird and wonderful things, like Focal tweeters and various other funky, coaxials, woofers tweeters, ton of polystyrene capacitors and other crossover components.

I'd love to see what this community can come up with. I'd also love to eventually run some classes on enclosure and crossover design/construction, I think its pretty fascinating to see the difference good enclosure and crossover design makes. Also, I'm happy to send some out to people if they're keen on playing with various designs to help us meet that end.

Can't wait to see what this community can bring to this party :)

Hi Karl and welcome to diyAudio :)

Sounds like you have a whole bunch of goodies there... best advice I can give at the moment is to break any questions/ideas/projects down into single items and then post them to the appropriate forums.

This is really just for intros, and so its a bit hit and miss on whose browsing it.

Hi mate and welcome.

With that much gear the possibilities are endless.

It would be great to see if an Open Battle design could be made to work with those drivers as they are so easy to build once all the initial design work has been done and would make a very accessible project platform.

Let us know if you need anything from down south.

Dean.

Hi rutager,
Welcome to DIYAudio!

You have a collection of really nice raw drivers! Wow! Make sure those who donated to your group are properly thanked as those are all top of the line speakers.

Many of the Peerless drivers are extremely happy in B4 boxes, Butterworth with Q=0.71 - ish. I have used them many times in the past, and you should expect really low system cut-off points with almost any Peerless woofer. You should be able to measure the T/S parameters fairly easily.

Anything you can pass on to other members will be welcome. Be prepared for the noisy cheap seats, but aside from them you should feel very welcome here. Just report any over the top posts for the mod team to review.

All my best, and thank you for joining!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone :)

Theres sooo much stuff haha. When Joe first told me he had a donation of "audio gear" I assumed he had some dodgy old Panaphonics/Sorny amplifiers. But I thought I'd take a peek just in case. My oh my how wrong I was haha.

Sounds like a fine, fine plan. Any suggestions on appropriate subforums to direct my various queries to?

I'm very open to suggestions. Whats an open battle? Was that supposed to be baffle? Open battle doesn't sound very "speaker-y" haha. Given the sheer volume of what we've got, ever since learning of them, I've been dreaming of a line array setup. Even just aesthetically they're amazing haha.

Yeah the guy who donated them really seemed to know what he was doing. Theres a few subs with enclosures and they're quite impressive. Not obnoxiously loud, but they feel powerful.

Good to have you here. Are you a "not for profit"?

Yeah, we're not for profit. Its a labor of love for us :)

Have a look down the left hand side of the page at all the forums. For speaker projects and questions you are looking at the 'Multiway', 'Subwoofers', Full Range' and 'Planars and Exotics'. Pick which seems most appropriate to your current project etc and don't worry, we can always move a thread.
